Still at 84% and seems to have stalled, though screen indicates regurgitation still happening, but 27 hours for may take awhile is into overtime rates. This happened about 4 to 6 weeks ago with an update then but was completed, so drivers would have been updated then ?? So maybe force a reboot now, opt out of any attempt to update again and do a defrag?

Force reboot and replace your hard drive yeah.

This morning my work laptop has no wifi. I see it has taken an overnight Windows update KB4090913 (OS Build 16299.251) (despite me trying to prevent this happening).

Unlikely to be a coincidence.

Usually I can restore to a prior savepoint but it won't allow me to do that for some reason. So no wifi :-(

Well, my search is broken again! Search for "snagit" doesn't result in any applications being shown. Works sometimes not others. Been a problem since W8.

Surface Book 2 here - installed with no issues without me even really thinking about it. Similar on HTPC at home (Zotac with Atom processor).

Did have a problem yesterday where wifi would connect but not get internet access. Not sure if it was related, but seems likely to be. Did a "Network reset" (Settings - network and internet - status, then the bottom link) and no problems thereafter.

Stuck it on 6 computers so far with no real problems. Only issue I had was with one computer I had to replace a motherboard on - I decided to replace the hdd with an SSD whilst I was at it. It wouldn't reactivate and wouldn't accept the hardware change thing in activation. Ended up installing the fall update, activating it then installing the April one and all worked well.

doing housekeeping after both PCs have 1803 installed I find in system protection that system restore is turned of. I have turned it on and set a restore point. have others got this problem?

I had the same experience. But, finally I installed Version 1803 on the first attempt from this link:

This major update hadn't actually shown up in my computer "Windows Update" section, which was still trying (for about the 100th time) to get me to do an update for Version 1709.

I'm still not sure why V1803 installed on the first attempt when multiple failures occurred when trying to install updates to V1709.

I had even been quoted $400 by a computer repair place to reinstall Windows etc so that V1709 updates could be installed, but it seems that the fault was always with the V1709 software itself and not something that repair places needed to help with.

Version 1709 updates failed quite often for many people (? millions) for example, see this article:

Sure, a complete $400 reinstallation may have worked, but the fact that V1803 installed on the first attempt shows that Microsoft might have taken notice of the (? millions) of complaints it received about the V1709 updates and made sure that V1803 corrected the well-known and frequently documented V1709 bugs.

Those of us who had the pleasure of working around NT will recall service packing. And leaning greater trust on odd? Numbered ones being released for stability over the others when it was stability roulette.

I feel like we are back there. But on a bi-monthly basis.

you don't need to disable or suspend BitLocker FYI :)

Have had issues with multiple previous updates and have had to go through the drawn out process of manually entering keys to sort things out. Less hassle disabling before the update.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

So 3 Machines done. Two personal, one domain connected machine. My domain connected machine was 2 versions behind but wouldn't go from 1703 to 1803, so I went 1703 to 1803 pretty much back to back.

Yet again my start menu in my work machine got borked. I have no icons, just down arrows in the start menu, and my search is broken so that's two machines from 3. Furthermore both upgrades on my work machine and my 2 personal machines all reset all my app default preferences to MS apps. Says there was a conflict. Not impressed.

It's frustrating they are adding features that a relatively small number of people might want (how many people care about 3D paint) instead of fixing search, which is broken so often in Windows. No Rhyme or reason. It's very frustrating.

Also, my Realtek HD Audio Manager keeps popping up.

mine updated okay except for Dell laptop which kept blue screening. Downloaded tool and then clean installed. All fine except my nas or home server wouldnt show up. See its a common problem. So had brainwave. Clean installed 1709 and made sure all drivers correct then updated to 1803. All excellent. No bluescreens (touch wood) yet and been a week now and nas and other windows computers show up in network now and that means kodi can find my nas and server now so happy camper again. long work around but it worked
