on Oct 22

Great, thanks. Any word on when the docks will become available?

It should work with any USB3 Dock.
I'm using Toshiba USB dock with Surface Pro, dock has wireless keyboard and mouse and 2 x 24" screens attached to it.  Brilliant device and can't see any reason why to upgrade to Surface Pro 2 as I'm fine with current battery life.

How do you have the monitors connected? does it give you two screens or stretched image a cross two monitors? (you know what I mean?)

It gives 2 separate screens, maximising a window stretches it in one screen.
Screens are connected through HDMI and DVI as Toshiba doc did not have more than one HDMI port.
What surprised me that wireless keyboard on mouse worked without any extra hassle through dock.

cheers. looks like a pretty cool device right there. And saves having to get monitors that support minidisplay chaining.

The Surface2 will be presented to the New Zealand press next Monday - review units will be distributed then. I got an invite but since I'm in AKL later in the week for a couple of days I will get one a few days later.

This one could be a winner...

You do realise it will be running windows 8.1....

I would be interested if you can tether it to an IPhone via Bluetooth and use a wedge mouse (Bluetooth) at the same time.

Its actually Windows 8.1 RT on the Surface 2

If I had an iPhone I could tether it and test it for you. I'll see if I can walk over to Vodafone tomorrow and try it out against an iPhone and my Wedge mouse

Not sure what's the problem? I'm using Windows 8.1 on my laptop...

that link refers to the US Microsoft Store from what I can read, not NZ

am I correct that the only difference between teh 256 and the 512 is the disk space? no other component bumps?

Correct, personally I think the 256/8GB unit will be particularly popular

Yes, but are you actually using it (individual windows features) to do things, or are you mainly using other apps like office etc.  I often find people that tell me an OS works well sometimes really mean that their primary application of choice works well and they really don't use the OS.

If you do get a chance to do that, it would be good, especially if you can test it on your surface pro 2 (as I have a surface pro).  Although I suspect I will find out in the next day or so when the 8.1 update comes out (I am running preview).   This is one of my main issues with 8.1 at the moment.

I suspect you should be able to see the same issue with a windows phone (if you can Bluetooth tether to them).  It just seems to be an issue with BT device contention.
