Yup, as I've said before, once I gave Windows 8 a decent chance it has really grown on me. I'm still not a fan of metro on the desktop but other than the start screen it's almost completely optional and I can't say the start screen bothers me much either.

For me Windows 8 has some very nice improvements over windows 7 and overall seems to run smoother. So I've been completely happy with my upgrades from 7 to 8.

I also got win8 with the $20 upgrade special but only updated to it this week. First thing I did was install Classicshell which removed the tiles, charm menu, annoying corner menus and boots straight to desktop.
Now it looks like an improved win7 and I am surprised how much I am enjoying it. Many little improvements over 7 like better multi monitor support. Am enjoying the dynamic panoramic wallpaper

The word out now is that Windows Blue will be a free update to existing Windows 8 users. After reading about it sounds more and more like a Service Pack to me.

Its a new release that will be easy to install and have extremely high compatibility!

Service Packs don't tend to have new features, Windows 8.1 will have a lot of new stuff in it.

I'm tired of showing people how to escape metro. Feels like being in a madhouse (as a casual windows 8 user, I've stuck to windows 7 otherwise).

the Beta and the Final release will be a free download from the Windows Store

features are yet to be announced

/me shrugs

I could live without Metro Apps personally (I prefer the flexibility of the full apps), but it worked ok in the beta.

Yes, A start menu or THE start menu

Ideally, it will have options for Metro, desktop, THE start menu, charms, corner options.

Pick and choose what you want. All or some. Be annoying to have to boot to classic Windows or boot to Metro windows. Or is it not possible for Metro to switch to the true classic desktop due to how the UI or backend operates?

If they could give a FULL choice, Windows 8 would be a boon, as it satisfies everyone.

I have Windows 8 in my laptop and I have NOT USED a single Windows 8 Modern app at all since installing it a few months back. I use all my fully featured applications such as Google Chrome, Visual Studio 2012, Logmein, Microsoft Outlook 2013, Microsoft Word 2013, SQLSentry, Idera SQL Tools, etc.

On a couple of tablets I have here the Metro makes sense. On a work laptop it's a waste of resources.

I have no interest in running windows 8 metro apps on my desktop. At least, to date.

I have an ipad for apps so why would I want to repurchase the same apps for windows 8?

I'm constantly explaining to people how to exit metro when they get stuck on the photo app for example.

Microsoft forcing metro on users when it should be up to the user to decide. Metro feels like some kind of marketing demonstration and it is really irritating.

I'd like 3 'metro' profiles- Off, Partial , Full.

Except microsoft .They want people to buy apps. It is their next generation revenue stream.

But, if you disable metro, then , you're not going to buy desktop apps.
