I had a good mess around with a 5K iMac, it truly is an impressive piece of kit. With my current iMac on its last legs the 5k machine is going to be my next desktop.

Has anyone here purchased one of these, and if so what has the real life experience been?

All the reviews so far have been positive with the only downside is if you're going to play games at native resolution the GPU runs pretty hot but for every day computing it doesn't have any problems running the screen. I'm still wavering between getting a PC or an iMac - the iMac option will probably something I'd hold off for the refresh model with a slightly more powerful GPU.

Brilliant screen - close friend of mine however had to return it because it was flickering and doing all sorts of video graphic glitches. I am personally holding out from rev 1 as apple never had any luck with retina rev 0 models (other than the iPhone screen)

They were commonly reported in the early days after it's release.  Since then with some system updates they've resolved most reported issues.
