Well it looks like the days of the big gentailers "sock puppeting" are ending.

In the past I suspect Flick might have continued as a brand of Meridian, but they just transferred them over ,

and now Genesis have decided to phase out Frank and Ecotricity and just brand everything Genesis

I moved from Frank to Genesis several months back as Genesis was much cheaper - which didn't make sense considering the reason Frank exists.

Ditto. And add to that the ChargeNet EV charger home rates.

Hmm been a big push to Ecotricity in Canterbury for solar people due to the "33c buyback". I would expect that to disappear in time as it included the 14c rebate from lines that genesis do not pass on.

It seemed to be a brand that existed to give the illusion of competition in the market. It is basically just genesis anyway and the billing system and app appears identical apart from the branding. Infact when I was with them for gas, the gas bottles were delivered and branded Genesis. After they put up their daily charge twice in less than a year I switched from them.

I wonder what this will mean for Gavins EV videos on that channel.

The writing was on the wall for Frank as soon as they decided to stop offering bottled gas, handing that customer base back to Genesis.

I refused to suffer the ridiculous price rise (introduction of a monthly bottle rental fee + a roughly 71% price rise for a 45kg swappa bottle).

We've now moved our power away to another company, and purchased our own 18kg gas bottles that only cost $60 to fill (vs $189 for their 45kg bottles)

I suspect many of their other jaded customers have done the same. It's a shame as I was previously a strong advocate for the Frank brand but they've literally killed it in the space of a few short months.

Which they would have done as their priciing was unsustainable.

Yes and _they_ refused to keep eating a loss on every sale.

IMHO that move was an attempt to keep the writing off the wall.

Their electricity pricing was about the same, or more , than genesis pricing when factoring in the multi service discount. At least in my area.  One concern I have is if they will require people have electricity with them if they also provide gas. I hope they don’t try that because I think that is the case with some power companies that don’t provide gas as a standalone service, you also have to have your electricity with them.

Slightly OT, but where did you get your bottles from please?

Just got an email from Frank, so it's official (not that I didn't believe it!). Says it's going to happen over the "coming months". (Edit: Later in the message it says I'll move to Genesis in September.)

I’m in the process of getting Solar installed and was considering a jump to ecotricity for the better buy back rate, hopefully Genesis will improve the current offering

I wonder if Genesis will honour the “guaranteed life of the solar system” rate I’m paying Ecotricity of Lines Charges + 8c per KWh + GST.

I looked at alot of companies for power after Frank was looking at hiking the rated from .90c to 1.20 per day and then increase the import rate to i think .26c per KW and still only offer .11c buy back, also the way they worked out the GST on the buyback and import was not right from what i could work out.

I ended up going with https://poweredge.nz/power-shield-best-solar-export-rates/ these guys, im now paying .60c per day and .29c import but im now getting .20c export, so far its been really good, but will see how much i can export in summer with the 30 panels i have.

For me, Frank was the cheapest in the area especially before they yanked the LPG. I get my LPG from a local company that supplies the big ones now but stayed with Frank for power.

Ecotricity is one of the next best price wise (and who I switched from for Frank) but obviously there’s no point moving back to them!

So it’s back to hunting for a new supplier, which I hate.

Similar, Frank for power only was a great deal for us in the AKL area. Looking at powerswitch, the next 5 "best" offerings are power shop.  And those are providing we take advantage of purchasing packets or the like on Tuesdays, mucking around with deals and what not on certain times.
