I am surprised those who keep repeating it is always an "act" didn't mention the fact Neymar is now out of the cup because of his back injury.

Interestingly enough it was the only time the referee didn't stop the game - the other player didn't get a card or anything.

That's exactly the issue with footy soccer.

Play acting gets opponents punished unfairly, yet real fouls are not picked up. FIFA doesn't seem to care.

joker97: Robben the serial diver is diving so much I don't even know what is foul or not anymore

In last night's match all of the "dives" were most certainly offences.
In the game vs. Mexico he faked one but all the others were actual offences.

The problem that exists now is that he has been discussed in the referee quarters being known to "dive" and now he is not getting advantage when he actually deserves it..

Anyway.. last night was wild

Of course normal football fans realise that players in all sports cheat and that sometimes referees miss obvious fouls and calls but let's not allow these facts to get in the way of further outrages and endless commentary about the diving and play-acting because apparently this is all there is to talk about when it comes to the WC for some people.

Kind of stunned by the magnitude of Germany's defeat of Brazil in the semifinal. Every time I went to make a coffee in the first half Germany scored another goal. Gave up and waited until half time.

I never expected 8 goals in that game or Brazil to be down 5-0 inside 30 minutes - that's for sure.

Germany played really well, against a team that wasn't playing at all. Deserved to go through.

I was disappointed by the match to be honest. Like most people, I expected a very close match. I wanted Germany to win but I also enjoy a close game and to see a caining like that is never fun - for me at least.

I'm delighted to see a team that's interested in playing football go through at the expense of a team that's largely just been fouling and playing agricultural football. Quite aside from not turning up, some of the Brazilian players absolutely disgraced themselves through their conduct today. David Luiz was the chief culprit -- the early elbow swing at Klose plus all the cheap niggly fouls and complaining to the referee. Some of these players can take a lesson from their coach when it comes to maintaining a bit of dignity in defeat.

I don't follow football generally but why was Fred being booed? It reminded me of each time Quad Cooper received the ball and nz crowds would boo him except, in this case it was his own fans! Did he do something I missed this morning?

The guy simply offered nothing - didn't move, couldn't pass, and frankly tried nothing. The consequence of this was that Germany could press very high up and overwhelmed the Brazilians in the midfield and the Brazilian's own half.

This match and the WC generally has highlighted the absolute folly of selecting players based on reputation and the dangers of selecting the, how to I put it kindly, naturally thick players. Marcelo -- who along with Pepe has to be the two dumbest professional footballers on earth -- basically decided not to play defence in one of the biggest games of his career. Selecting people like him, Pepe, out-of-form and overrated players like Ramos and Casillas, along with "confidence or nothing" players like Benzema have cost many teams dearly.

I heard Lou Vincent organised their defence.

Fair call. I thought the first 15 or so minutes (before Germany scored) was really exciting. I got the impression Brasil's defence went from bad to awful and was evident in the goals conceded. I didn't really notice the striker playing badly cause they never seemed to have the ball (through I don't know what a striker should be doing at other times of a match anyway).
