The 10 days June 23 to 2 July was the search periods in the cave system. They were reported missing by parents on June 23, cycles and boots found at the cave entrance June 23. Took over a week to get 2 odd km inside. Got to Pattaya beach cavern 2 July I think. or 3rd. They were found a short while later a little further on. As to whether the parents said they went to the cave or the cave was one of the obvious places to search, I'm unsure, but a parent reported them missing after practice, so appears the parents did not know. It didnt take 10 days to work out where they were they already knew

They walked in and it flooded an area they walked through once they were past it.

Kinda like walking around a coast and being cut off by the rising tide.

The water wasn't there when they went in. That came from the rain. Monsoon=flash flood. This is my guess. I don't really know but I do know our stream comes up very fast some time after a thunderstorm in the mountains.

The rescuers found their shoes in an earlier chamber. So it seems they walked baredfoot through water in an area that subsequently flooded. As pointed out earlier, sounds like the water could rise 60cm in an hour so could understand them not wanting to walk out through a torrent even if not submerged.

I was under the impression that something changed, such that water level suddenly dropped, I thought someone brought some really strong pumps in the last day. But nowhere does it state that, so maybe it's just the constant pumping over a period.

I was under the impression that something changed, such that water level suddenly dropped, I thought someone brought some really strong pumps in the last day. But nowhere does it state that, so maybe it's just the constant pumping over a period.

Constant I feel. In the very early days I thought it was all water, but there are parts where it can be walked or waded, quite a bit of that now, most in fact

Fingers crossed the rest of the operation goes as well as the first rescue. It's an incredible story and is gripping the world. I stayed up late last night following the story....hopefully we wake up tomorrow with more good news.

A little OT but relatable, I watched YouTube vids last night on caving accidents and saw a video about a guy named John Jones who got stuck upside down in a cave in Utah in 2009, and despite a massive rescue operation he could not be extracted from the narrow canal he had climbed down. It made my skin crawl. John Jones is still in the cave, it's now his tomb and is closed to the public.

So they are heading back in again. The world could really use some more good news to counteract some of the terrible things that Humans insist on doing to each other.

A little OT but relatable, :-) I went to Carlsbad Caverns a few years ago. New Mexico. 700m deep from memory. Staggering. You can fit stadiums in there. There is a whole world underground, evidenced by many sinkholes happening globally.

Many of us Im sure have felt uncomfortable getting into tight spaces under a house for example, but to go where its truly remote and under megatons of hillside, where there is no restart button, is bravery.

I was thinking that today. Its a pity we have probably a few dozen here doing good, yet tens of thousands doing the opposite. But, Im happy to hang onto stories like these. That where my hope there isn't a witch hunt afterwards comes from, perhaps.

I too genuinely hope there isn't one. I just believe there may be. I guess we will see what the outcome of the whole situation is.

The shape of the cave will decide how much the water level changes per 100,000 litres removed. As it gets closer to the bottom you'd expect the walls to move in so the level would drop faster.
