In regards the final season, I have by and large enjoyed it. I don't really notice the continuity aspects, and I found Arya's escape from falling rubble genuinely tense. Even with everything being burnt to a crisp, the episode raced by. I agree, some will feel let down, personally I thought the Night King died a bit easily for something that had been brewing since the first episode, but hey, as above, I'll be watching the next episode.

Me too! I wish the writers had longer but it is what it is. Can’t wait to see how it ends. Flaws or not it's probably the best tv series I've ever seen.

My favourites would be pretty much anything written by Aaron Sorkin. West Wing, Newsroom etc, I really loved those.

GOT is up there, I wish I had watched it properly though.

I'm one of these angry viewers. final season been nothing but disappointment. At least e05 was with a twist. And wow finally dragon can do some damage, I guess they picked up some invisible pill or something :)

I'd agree it has seemed a bit rushed, and I kind of wish they'd dealt with the Night King in Season 7, leaving all of Season 8 for the Mad Queen storyline.

It is what it is, and I'll be watching e6 for sure.

I'm kind of expecting to be disappointed in the ending. I'd like to see the Starks (incl Snow) and Tyrion survive, but I don't have great confidence that that will pan out.

I saw a good write up on the change in writing direction in the later seasons. Essentially early on the books were written in a character driven way. GRRM set up the characters and then thought about what they would do, how they would react to each situation etc. This can unfortunately lead to meandering plot lines and an unmanageble list of side characters etc. Later on the writers moved to a plot driven story. This helps to tidy up the story and finish things. However it can lead to characters taking action which may seem out of character, strictly to move the plot forward. E.G someone might travel somewhere not because it seems like something the character would choose to do, but because the plot needs them there for the next phase. I think certain things were always going to happen, e.g Aria kill the night king, DanyDestroying King's Landing. I just think they were rushed to the conclusion to tidy up the plot. It is this change of style which people are complaining about.

Also the main emphasis on the story has always been the internal fighting in the seven kingdoms, with the existential threat of the night king's army providing a backdrop to highlight the folly of this fight.

I wanted to see Tyrion, Snow, Arya, and Dany survive, but last week crossed Dany off that list. Sansa annoys me, I don't care if she survives but I suspect she will.

I have a real issue with people foisting leadership on others, especially if they don't want it.  Snow doesn't want it, but in my mind, last week after Dany went BS Crazy, he realizes she has to go and he is going to be better than her.

Question now, is if he can suvive and end her.

Sports night and The West Wing were both charming and incredibly well written. Newsroom and Studio 60 not so much - Sorkin got increasingly pompous and bitter. The mansplaining in the Newsroom was awful. The West Wing is still the show I rewatch the most - it's my go to show to binge 8 episodes on a long flight.

Game of Thrones isn't the best TV show I've watched (both the Wire and Breaking Bad were better) but the ambition and scale will probably never be seen again. It's probably the last Tv show to be watched almost universally.

It's a shame that Benioff and Weiss chose to cut the series short. It was their choice to have two short seasons - HBO offered to fund it to it's conclusion but they seem to have run out of gas.

I don't think Jon will but I reckon Arya will and Tyrion are likely to as long as Dany doesn't get him. I'm thinking Arya on the throne as in a way she was 'born' again in salt and smoke from the time she left the Hound and saw the destruction of King's Landing.

Breaking Bad was very good but not my cup of tea, ditto gosh I can't remember the name now, the one about the mafia guy that was extremely well written but too violent in a realistic way for me to watch... the quality of those were the best with GoT ranking right up there and the watchability a bit easier since they were more fantasy based.

Ive had a theory that GRRM had two endings in mind. He gave D&D the less favourable of his endings to see how the audience would react and depending on the reactions would decide whether to use that or his other real ending for the books. GoT season 8 is no where near as bad as Colin Trevorrow's Book of Henry. So Star Wars fans freaking out need not worry.  Also re the D&D hate. Lets not invalidate their work on the first 4/5 seasons. Because the last 2 seasons didn't turn out so great. They still had to adapt that material in the first 4/5 seasons and did an immaculate job. You could argue it was GRRM's fault for not finishing the books that the show's quality dropped. Its not D&D's fault they ran out of material. What were they supposed to do? Delay the show while Martin finished the books? wasn't gonna happen. HBO wasn't gonna sit on a pile of cash. The actors would have aged and been unrecognisable by the time the last 2 books came out.

For me personally, its not the invalidation of what they have accomplished its the lightening quick time it has taken to have the wall fall, The Battle of Winterfell, the march to Kings Landing, the fall of the city and here we are 1 episode away from finishing. 6-7 episodes for 3 major wars. they have definitely rushed this season and I think that's the problem for most. From what has been said online HBO offered more $$ for D&D to have GoT extended but they turned it down.

I think the lack of content from season 8 is not down to GRRM, its down to cutting out "filler" material before and after major scenes which would add depth to the story and thus making the whole plot a lot more enjoyable. GoT is a fine wine that's meant to sipped and enjoyed but this season feels like a race to the bottom of the pint.

Although I am disappointed it hasn't stopped me from starting over from the beginning and watching again.

I think it's silly complaining about how something ends.

You didn't write it.

They did.

And they liked the way they ended it, you may not.

It's not a democracy, it's fiction, in books, written by one person.

Try a book that never got finished, now there's something to be sad about. I read one, author had an argument with the publishers and abandoned the next book.

The more I think about the way this show has run, the more I like the idea of Bronn sitting on the Iron Throne come the end of the series. I was tempted to put a wager on it but that's harder than it sounds.

Agreed. He has basically done nothing, except take mysterious trips away at critical times. Makes sense he still has a hand to play. If it's not to take the throne, it's to ensure whomever he deems most suited will take the throne.
