It has actually been shown to be LESS efficient. However, accountants are not interested in efficiency, only money....

 

I'm actually pretty sure I know exactly where this open plan thing started.

The fault lies with a friend of mine, with whom I used to party quite hard, who managed to secure a highly sought after job in the graduate recruitment programme for a prestigious accounting firm.
He had his own office, with a door and a window with CBD views.  The work itself was extremely demanding but most of it intensely boring - apparently.
After one hard night, whilst examining intricate detail of some company accounts he was supposed to be auditing, to a strict deadline, lest some poor client end up in jail or worse, he felt the need to rest his tired hung over noggin by propping it between forehead and desk, using a ruler.  A senior partner woke him, possibly hours after he'd nodded off.  Long enough for the ruler to have embedded itself in the skin of his forehead and kind of stick there as he raised his head, then clatter to the floor, possibly drawing the attention of the senior partner to the deep red indention, and to think very hard about the broad implications of this.

My friend rebounded from this pretty well, considering.  It took a year or two, but he achieved promotion from forecourt attendant to service station manager, before heading back to an office job.

Maybe not so much angry but rather bemused that, for safety reasons, commercial drivers can work no more than 13 hours per day and no more than 70 hours in a week (I'm good with this), whilst it's apparently OK for junior doctors to do 16 hours shifts, 12 days on the trot.

 

 

 

 

As someone that uses the medical services I have always found this worrying. It was also one of the deciding factors for my son's change during training from becoming a medical Doctor to a Psychologist. 

 

I am married to a doctor, there were some days she wasn't safe to drive home after work, I am convinced. 

It's a difficult one though, there aren't enough Doctors. Having said that, striking is something I've always had a major problem with.  My wife refused to strike last time around, and she was spat at and abused as she arrived for work, it was terrible.

DHBs are systemically underfunded, even if there were more doctors available, in order to pay them then something else would need to be cut back.

Damned shame that results from more money to fix much of what is broken would take longer than one election cycle.

Tried to use this today.... got half way through  then the app 'lost connection' despite my connection being fine.   The connection failed on their end!!

Then , used what I had, and it is supposed to make a list ordered by aisle for your local store -- all the production location data is wrong, stuff was not in the aisle the app said. 

It is easier to write a list than use the countdown app. Why did they bother?

Blue Bubble Taxis' android app is another shocker.  You think they would lift their game on the app front with that being such an advantage for Uber.

Bread that no longer is big enough to seal around the edges in a toasted sandwich maker!
