I could spend all day trying to get the key fob down there and fail on every attempt. Drop it by accident and the sodding thing goes straight down. There needs to be a force field developed to stop that.  The same for the gap between an elevator and the depths of Hell.

You mean a lift, surely? Did your father also spend his working life in an American high-rise?

Quite right. We should all know better. It's the 9th of May 2022 for crying out loud.

The small amount of piano black trim in my new vehicle. It is only is only a small amount mainly on the center console but it seems to attract a multitude of finger prints and I am sure they get there even without touching the surface.

The fact that a whole commercial industry has grown up around government prescribed standards and it is necessary to have to pay for the thing that you need to know about in order to abide by it. Even more extreme in Australia, where the generated paid for standards PDFs are copy protected and can be downloaded to a single device only.

The whole thing is a gigantic rort.

SepticSceptic: Sometimes, just sometimes, I can just touch the dropped item, but only end up manoeuvring the item either further under the seat, or further back into the gap, even further out if reach.

Two partial solutions that would work in some circumstances are different types of grabbers, either with a neodymium magnet on the end to pick up anything magnetic or with a claw end if you can see the thing you want to get out.

Ticketmaster. OK, just Ticketmaster in itself deserves to be consigned to the depths of hell because of who they are and how they operate, but on top of that they've decided that I need to change my password via an emailed password reset because apparently access to their site is so precious that they need you to change your password more often than your bank does.

After four attempts at logging in, supposedly getting a password reset link sent, nothing arriving, and the page timing out and asking me to start the whole circus again, I'm now down to calling a friend who can still log in to buy tickets, because there's no alternative to Ticketmaster for getting any.

kiwiharry: Hotels that supply you a tetra pack of milk.

Seems to be certain hotels in Christchurch that I experience this at.

How on earth are you supposed to elegantly open these to pour into your tea or coffee?

Packaging is too thick to tear the corner off as it's not perforated either. If you do manage to tear it you spill contents as you are gripping the pack tightly. You really need scissors to open them properly.

Trying to use the straw or punched open foil hole, can be equally messy.

Pop the corner and cut it with scissors. Works for me.

Bought a new hydration bladder.

Filled it yesterday to take it out on a ride.

Pinhole leak where the seam weld is! Grr.

I don't usually travel with scissors and they aren't usually included in hotel rooms by default.

In the end I signed up for a new account under a fake name to get the tickets (it's to support a good cause so I didn't want to bail on it). They asked me at the end of the process what I thought of the experience, so I told them, ending with:

... It's bad enough that you gouge everyone with ridiculous transaction and processing fees on every single purchase, but with all the money you're sucking out of people you could at least pay someone to create a sign-in process that actually works.

Ticketmaster responded with:

The Audience Rewards Number you entered is invalid. Please try again.

That allows them to report that they've had no negative feedback whatsoever from anyone.

Don't get me started on surveys. I subscribed to something a while ago, and they gave a gift at its conclusion. There was also a survey. It was not possible to complete the survey without telling them whether you liked the gift. I thought it was a social no-no to give a gift and then ask whether they like it.

Ah. I have a small Leatherman Squirt that lives in my washkit. Never leave home without it. It’s been hugely useful in strange countries all over the world.

Picked out splinters, cut food, trimmed snags and threads, done up loose screws, bolts etc.

Highly recommended.

For me it's a Gerber Dime, because it has a small TSA-approved-length knife, scissors, and tweezers (alongside the usual screwdrivers, files, and cyclist remover). Also in my travel kit are some teaspoons, miniature roll of duct tape, housewife (the other sort), assorted USB adapters including a USB firewall for charging, soap powder, and some other stuff I can't remember at the moment, all in a holdall that I can toss into the luggage without having to remember all the parts and collect them together first.

Not quite as elaborate as the getup Casanova travelled with (can't find the list at the moment but if it was accurate he would have needed a separate coach to carry it all), but enough to carry out emergency repairs and the like. I've needed all of them at one time or another.
