TomW: Can someone that has shipped stuff with ship2u confirm that it is legit/reliable? I am looking at shipping a pair of skis from the States and the quoted price for ship2u is at least 50% cheaper than every other freight forwarder- it almost seems to good to be true.

As mentioned before, I've never used them myself. I did investigate them about 2 years ago when buying something, but ended up choosing Youshop IIRC because the item I was purchasing would have gotten the California sales tax, plus I was hoping it would be less than 500g. And Youshop was more generous with coupons at the time so even with ship2u being nominally cheaper, Youshop may have ended up about the same provided I didn't end up over the weight with Youshop but not ship2u.

IIRC when I investigated them, I couldn't find that much discussion of them but I also didn't find any major warnings. I thought I found someone who has something slightly odd, like they had a bit of trouble contacting ship2u or something but I can't find that again so may be remembering wrong. In any case I believe it was sorted.

Some people on geekzone have used them http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?topicid=109104&page_no=59 , http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?topicid=109104&page_no=57 , http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=48&topicid=136655&page_no=2 . Also http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?134710-Using-NZ-Post-YouShop-to-buy-from-Sony-com-USA/page2 has someone who says they used them a few times.

You may want to look in to what their compensation policy is as there's nothing on their website. When I asked 2 years ago they said they would compensate up to $1500 for lost items. Or damaged items where it was their fault. But they could have changed since then. This may not be particularly likely but it's the sort of thing you don't think about until it's a problem. (For all their faults, at least YouShop is up front about compensation/insurance.)

And as with the other poster, I'd recheck your calculations unless your item is too large for Youshop, but okay for ship2u. Even with ship2u's more generous volumetric pricing and slightly cheaper prices, it shouldn't be 50% cheaper except for stuff like better consolidation or repacking which only experience can really tell you. (It's up to 20% cheaper on the volumetric plus a bit more on the shipping and may be for compensation.) E.g. for a 150x50x16 parcel (with weight below volumetric) it would be $240.50 on Youshop vs $196 on ship2u. A big difference, but far from 50%.

Thanks for the advice. In this instance I can't ship with youshop because the skis exceed the 150cm limit. So I have been looking for a good cheap alternative to youshop. I have been told that the package dimensions are around 190x8x 10cm with a weight of around 5kg. For ship2u that comes to 56NZD where as the cheapest shipping at shipito is $112 (presumably this is USD?).

Yeah shipito prices would be USD.

Too long for YouShop makes sense. But in that case, you may want to double check with ship2u that they have no problem with such a long package. In theory their calculator should warn you or they should have published something. But they must have some limit and I can't find anything. And I wouldn't trust their calculator which accepts stuff up to 10000cm or more. I suspect you'll probably prefer to know now rather than try to argue with them later. If they have no problem, I guess their carriers accept a larger limit.

One thing I did notice their T&C is inconsistent with the published rates and calculator. T&C says they charge in 1 kg increments and use 5000 for the dimensional compared to 0.5kg (after 1kg) and 6000. I suspect they updated the rates and forgot to update their T&C but don't really know. http://ship2u.co.nz/sub/m1_03.php

Has anyone actually used the consolidation service yet? How did you find it, what was the consolidated price vs sending separately?

I will be potentially using it as I have 2 parcels arriving in the next week. One is going to be a fairly decent sized box (clothing: jacket, hoody, tshirts etc), and the other parcel is a ath-m50x. Hoping i don't get reemed on the postage, i would have usually used shipitto as it offers several different options but didn't even think of them (however my last clothes purchase ended up in a 130usd shipping cost from shipito so not that cheap anyway).

Will hopefully have used it by some time next week. Would have used it earlier, but one of the eBay sellers has been very slow at sending. Okay it also took me a while to pay because I was waiting for them to respond to a question which they never did, which I figured was a bad sign but decided to just go ahead. But even after paying they didn't send for over a week. In fact on Saturday US time said they were sending to day but I just go the tracking number which tells me they sent it on Wednesday US time.

There is someone on Twitter complaining about consolidation not working, but they didn't explain what they mean. (From another comment, I wonder if they may be mostly annoyed because of the elimination of the multiple parcel discount and the negative effect on orders with only 2 items without a lot of volumetric to fill with real weight.)

Myself, partially because I was originally planning to use the multiple parcel discount  although mostly because of the very slow sender I actually received 2 final reminders. NZ Post extended both of them for 14 days (seperately) and since I actually have a tracking number for the final parcel and it's Priority Mail fom California to Oregon, it should be fine. However I did have decent explainations for these although I was annoyed particularly at having to request the second one. If you're just ordering items slowly I'm not sure if they'll help so easily. (And in my case having requested 2, I wonder if they will be more reluctant in the future.)

One of my parcels arrived yesterday, the other one is still sitting at amazon waiting on shipment (6 days after placing the order). I decided not to do consolidation in the end as it would put me within $10 of the duty limit, vs sending separately im $200 clear on both packages. Using the youshop calcuator i would have saved about $15 i theory, not worth the wait (for the other package to arrive) or the risk (gst fee etc).

I emailed ship2u and received this less than helpful advice: "The size limit for one item is about 180cm~190cm, thus you may try to ship the item with Ship2U." So you could send them an item between 180-190cm and have no idea whether they will send it or reject it. They could try and be a little more definitive!

Finally got my completely repackaged two pairs of shoes from shipito.  Arrived by courierpost, which it would, as I live at a rural address.  Would use them again over YouShop, given how much cheaper it is.  They arrived 17 days from when I was notified it was shipping, using the cheapest airmail economy option.

I commented on the cost breakdowns in several posts earlier.  I note you replied to that post, so you must have read it..

Surface Pro / Surface Pro 2 docking station. BestBuy USD89. NewEgg USD159. On Amazon for USD110 backup option (I think that will work?) but that USD89 looks good : ).

Just a quick note on consolidation, it seems that it just combines the weight, and volumetric weight of your parcels to charge you. It actually happens instantly. You can seperate the parcels again, at least for the next 30 minutes or so. (Well I think forever, I haven't tried but the interface makes me think so.)

When you've consolidated, you get a new final payment date. I presume this means you can actually consolidate your parcels as they arrive, then seperate them then consolidate more to avoid problems of the date running out of some are slow to arrive. (May be you don't even have to seperate them, I'm reluctant to try in case I break something.)

But I can't say for sure that they won't throw out one of your parcels despite the new consolidation final payment, you may want to check with them on that if it's an issue.

About the final payment date. Again may be this was discussed before, sorry if this is just repetition but I didn't come acorss it. The final payment date shows up for each parcel after you've added delivery details etc. It doesn't show before, even though it still applies since you get the reminders.

Be wary, in my case it looks like NZ Post extended the final payment date on the wrong parcel (the one they had already extended) even though I gave them the right number and I'm pretty sure this one was expiring sooner. I didn't know this because I hadn't bothered to add delivery details. (When I asked after extending my first parcel, they said it didn't show but not to worry.) Fortunately because it was a Saturday they don't seem to have discarded my parcel yet.

Also a note on compensation cover, this may have been mentioned before, and the T&C are clear even if the other site explanations are IMO less so. You need to purchase the additional compensation if you want your item to be covered. Even if it's NZ$251, if you don't purchase you don't only lose $1 if it's lost or damaged. You won't get any compensation.

Had to use the lost parcel tracker the other day.. I remembered I had a parcel incoming and after checking the FedEx tracking, I used the tool
Found my parcel, I claimed it and shipped it.

First time I have not received the "We have received your parcel" email

Next thing to try is consolidation
