Eva888: Granddaughter who I figured no longer believed in Santa this year because she interrogated me last Xmas about if he was real or not, FaceTimed me from Sydney. Said mummy was putting up a Christmas tree next week. I said we wouldn’t bother this year since she wasn’t going to be here to decorate it for us. Her eyes grew wide and she said, 'but where will Santa leave the presents?'

I think you're being generous. Kids may not strictly believe in 'the man' but as long as the goodies keep coming, why upset a good thing?

Like all parents I tried to keep the illusion going as long as plausible without going overboard. At a christmas party I was amused to hear my oldest say to the youngest "you know it's a man in a suit right?".

The oldest has now grown into a right little cynic - makes me smile.

Our eldest kept up the charade for his little brother's sake for a good couple of years...he used to wink at us and smile knowingly while talking about Santa. They're only 20 months apart, but the eldest has always been a little...older.

They've been brought up pretty funny in any case. Presents? Isn't Christmas about setting up the Santa trap by the chimney with your kids, that sort of thing? And then they discover a somewhat bloody red sock in it the next day...

(I can't remember all the other things this guy does with his kids, just the story of the Santa trap. There was something involving reindeer as well one year, possibly a venison dinner).

The Austrian town of F***ing is being renamed. The locals were sick and Fugging tired of having their road signs stolen.

(hah - I can't post a link to news stories - they use naughty place names in their URLS).

Didn't replace the SO's bike last Christmas. (She uses it for getting to / from work)

Normally have 5 year replacement cycle.

Yesterday we call in at our regular bike shop (Over 30 years going to them!)

Actually find "the perfect bike in her eyes, and test ride etc". Have the old bike delivered to them to swap seat / mudguards / carrier / drink bottle holder etc across.

They get to keep / do up / sell old one in exchange. (Win for us as it will go cheap to a good home!)

They said that due to Covid / Shipping delays - next shipment of children's bikes is Sept 2021!

One limited shipment due in 10 days of adult ones!

I count ourselves very lucky, chosen / bought / swapped over / paid / In garage all in under 3 hours :-)

I got hold of four smart and compact power socket adapters with integrated power measurement and WiFi. Usually I only use 868MHz IoT (EU) device protocols that are approved here and are not commercially cloud-based. I thought I would give them a try anyway, because they were very high quality and yet extremely inexpensive. Since I don't use commercial Alexa, Echos, Siri and whatever (but an OPEN voice assistant) and host the IoT server myself, I am delighted to have discovered that the connector can not only be reprogrammed with very common protocol f/w, but also embedded in my existing infrastructure. :-)

Our just turned 2 granddaughter has begun to master Alexa/ Echo.

A couple of cute misnamings ( Alexa, Play Wiggles Hop Bunny ...), but is getting the gist of it.

So now Alexa's playlist history has a few Wiggles songs,, and about 250 " Baby Shark " playings ....

For those who are not visited by the kiddie pixies, here is one of the most annoying, but most played YouTube songs:

It makes for awful earworms .....

7 billion views and counting! I've just added one.

I got excited when one of my YT videos got to 30 views so seeing your video get to 7b must be a buzz.

I have no memory of believing in Santa at all, apparently my older brother told me at a very very young age that it was all a ruse.  My parents stopped bothering because I used to get really frustrated that they were lying to me.   Stupid me!

It is not "most played YouTube songs". It is in fact the most-viewed YouTube video, ever (so far).

Most impressed with Netgear support.

I found a bug in their Android Orbi app, that was only showing the first six of any devices connected to the Orbi router or AP and I had a winge in the comments section of the Playstore app that this bug had been introduced sevral versions prior and was still not fixed. They replied and asked me to email them (on a supplied email address). I did and they went to great lengths to ascertain exactly where I was seeing the issue -  grabbed log files and screenshots and kept in touch regularly until an updated version was released. They then got me to test this and confirm that the issue was resolved.

This stretched over several months, but actually a very prompt resolution in the overall scheme of things and great customer service. Pity some other large players can't up their game in the consumer products space.

Not sure if it belongs here or the other thread, but stumbled across the following. My thought process parsing the headline/product description went along the lines of "What in the... no way, I must have ready that wrong... who the heck would want one of these stupid thin - oh. Yeah, now I see who this is aimed at."

"Faraday Defense Router Shield // WiFi Guard, WiFi Router Cover, EMF Guard, Superior Shielding Performance, Blocks up to 95% EMF RF Waves, Quality Build, Made in The USA."
