Saw Trance last night.

An off the cuff review would give it 6/10.

Thinking about it more I might give it a 5. It just didn't feel right. The story had all the hallmarks of a Danny Boyle film but the character development left me not caring at the end.

Now you see me - Best movie I've seen this year easily. 9/10 very entertaining. Clever. Oceans 11 with Magic.

I also just saw Now you see me.

I thought it was very good. Would rate it around a 7/10. It was very entertaining and like above very much in the league of Oceans 11 trickery. There were a few parts/plot lines that took away from the overall score but otherwise a decent movie.

Chalk another one up for Now You See me 7/10 Really enjoyed it. Sounds like a sequel will happen with the way they ended it.

Great twist. Did not see that coming at all.

Well i have watched half of Batman The Dark Knight.... And as always it's an Awesome Batman Movie : ) Also the movie Dark Water i highly recommend that ,it will give you a tear in the eye at the end : )

The Wolverine 3D - 5/10

There's nothing particularly wrong with The Wolverine. The problem is that there's nothing particularly right with it either. While I enjoyed the previous X-Men Origins film for Wolverine, this story just didn't really have much going for it. Hugh Jackman was fine, as always, but none of the supporting characters really brought anything to the story. The action felt pretty flat, and the story was a little disjointed. It revolves around a Japanese soldier that Logan saves from the Nagasaki bomb during WW2, who is on his death bed and wants to trade places with Wolverine, giving him a chance to be mortal. However, this storyline jars with the ending, which leaves you thinking "why didn't they just do that at the start?" The overall feeling is of sloppy writing, and a poor concept.

3D doesn't add anything to it, and just compounds the "tacked-on" feeling of the whole film. Overall - disappointing. But stay for the usual Marvel post-credits teaser, this time for X-Men Days of Future Past.

The World's End - 5/10

I'm a huge fan of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and when they get together with Edgar Wright, it almost guarantees magic. Almost. Sadly, this wasn't one of those magic films.
Shaun of the Dead is a drop-dead classic, a loving homage to zombie films that zings off all the major zombie riffs, but manages to convey it's own sense of bromance as the core of a very funny film. Hot Fuzz managed to replicate many of the same themes, but set it in a sleepy village terrorised by over-controlling authority figures with a penchant for candlelit meetings and hoods. So I expected big things of The World's End, the third in the "Blood and Icecream" trilogy, which had been hyped for a couple of years as The Next Big Edgar Wright Film. I was disappointed.
The premise seems to set things up just right - Gary King (Pegg) reunites his old mates to complete a pub crawl in their hometown that they never finished in 1990. However, things go awry when the inhabitants of their town turn out to be aliens. So far, so Attack the Block (another film with Nick Frost in it) meets Shaun of the Dead. But in spite of the right comedic ingredients, nothing really gels. Pegg just seems annoying, rather than sympathetic, the "bromance" with Frost never feels authentic, and the side characters feel weak and underdeveloped. Rosamund Pike turns up as the sister of one of the friends, but she doesn't really serve any purpose, and she vanishes for the third quarter before inexplicably popping up again at the end.

There's a lot of exposition at the start and end, which highlights the weakness of the film to convey the core message. Where SoTD could convey all that stuff with a single, un-cut shot of Shaun walking from his flat to the dairy, or travelling to work, Wright feels like he needs to lay it all out for the audience at the start and finish (and along the way). Coupled with an attempt at "flashy" effects (compared with the previous two films in the "trilogy"), it feels like it's been captured by Hollywood, and varnished for the American market. If the first two films were like the orginal Star Wars trilogy, then The World's End is the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Which is a little ironic, given Pegg's outspoken views on that subject.

I really wanted to like this film, and had been waiting for it for a long time. But it just failed to meet my expectations, and like The Wolverine, felt disappointing.

I love the way people get different things from movies. I watched Oblivion last night and expected to hate it (I loathe Tom Cruise) but, instead, I really enjoyed it. It's got great visual "wow" factor and a pretty standard sci-fi script but with a few plot twists to make it somewhat interesting. I think the reason I enjoyed it so much is that I didn't take it seriously. Playing, "spot the movie" and "spot the scene" throughout kept me hugely entertained. Almost every scene seemed a copy or spoof of another movie and this was interspersed with Cruise doing a great job of mocking himself. Cruise's motorbike and driving scenes were straight out of his early movies, his old body in the pool was another re-enactment, the "Transformers" invaded, he visited Dune and Planet of the Apes...

If this was unintentional on the part of the producers and directors then it was a brilliant slip-up but I can't shake the feeling that the movie was never intended to be drama.

As a no-thinking, relax and laugh movie, it was great fun. 7/10

Saw The World's End today and while I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz I definitely still enjoyed it. Really not sure what I thought of the ending though. 6.5/10

Watched Parker last night

Thoroughly enjoyable Jason Statham actino flick with a strangely 70's feel to it.

Could've beena Charles Bronson movie.

I just found it so slow and drawn out. I should've played "spot the movie" as well, but I was too busy waiting for something - anything - to happen. It got there in the end, but man, even that didn't really shock me. I suppose I expected better from a Tom Cruise film, even tho I'm not a fan at all.

EDIT: Just bought Gold Class tickets to "Elysium" this saturday... that should cure "oblivion"!
