While we are on the subject of burning down neighbourhoods...

Can someone more learned than I give me a really good reason for wasps?

They just seem to be so unlike their similar but way less hateful cousins, the bee. Bees are pollinators. They happily buzz around, pollinating and (if Bee Movie has taught me anything), playing tennis, opening law practices and setting up massive honey conglomerates.

Wasps on the other hand seem to be nothing but spiteful little murder-flies. What's their deal?

They are actually really good at controlling pests and some are pollinators, they just don't really belong in NZ.

Stuff (as in the news site) telling me that I "need" to stop saying things like "brb" in messages. Apparently you're also not supposed to use "bitmoji" any more... whatever they are!

neb: The number of TM listings that list a shipping of "To be arranged" (Pick-up available from Flag Swamp, Otago). How hard is it to say "this will fit in a $5.40 bag, so shipping is $5.40", or have TM calculate it for you? All these TBAs mean you have to ask a question on each sale inquiring whether (a) they're actually prepared to ship it or not and (b) how much shipping will be and could they add that to the auction so it's possible to pay that amount when it closes.

Actually, it's not always that straightforward.

I might be prepared to send/deliver it to someone local(ish) but not prepared to ship it to someone further away for a variety of reasons.

Calculating shipping isn't always as simple as sending a box. Bikes, car parts, all sorts of things require some forethought or negotiation.

I reserve the right to sell items how I want to.

And they reposted some crappy article saying you shouldn't use thumbs up.

More and more and more SPAM calls received from "Spark Technical Department".

As I said earlier in the month, I can't ignore calls from numbers I don't recognise as I have a lot of client calls.

Very annoying, to receive these calls, and have to go through the whole dance of telling them you know they're not calling from Spark and they are scammers. Sometimes I hang up, sometimes I yell, sometimes I simply state that I am a police officer.

Rikkitic:

The same as the one for mosquitos.

The same as the one for any terminal disease - what is the logical point of something that exists only to kill its host?

The point is survival of the species, or the disease.

So the host is killed so slowly that the disease gets to spread to other hosts.

Secondly, the disease organism doesn't have to develop complex symbiosis with its host (or at least parasitism) so that both can survive.

For wasps, I guess there's a competitive advantage in not being useful or nice to humans. All the effort that bees put into making honey can instead be put into reproducing and expanding their territory and surviving in more hostile climates. Whilst being a Georgian or Chechnian or Belorusian bee is handy in terms of support from the Russian human, a lot of your resources go to the Russian. Sometimes it's better to be a Ukrainian wasp.

Mauritio's filter wont let me put what I say to these people on here, but they sometimes will even call back again and swear at me more.

Telcos should be embarrassed that they cant solve this problem.

They're making money from the calls, why is it a problem for them?

I recall hearing that internationally routed calls operate under a Bill and Keep model, so they wouldn't actually make any money off them - the scammers definitely won't be using NZ based telcos to originate the calls.

Got a 24hr facebook ban for suggesting that the police taze the protestors that block the motorways. that's saying they should do their job not "threats of violence"

I had similar a few months ago for suggesting that a friend incinerate his house as he had posted a picture of a massive spider.

They don't seem to react very well if you ask them if their mother knows that they scam people for a living.

I've managed to make one young scammer cry by asking if her mother was proud of what she did for a living. Almost felt bad for her. Almost.
