Can Apple Face ID be spoofed? I was able to spoof using recent photo displayed on screen. Also screen photo had a full beard.

We tried and was not successful with someones at work, and it seems to know you are trying to spoof it and just demand the password.

What's the difference, is it hardware? I know the Windows face rec needs an IR camera to work, I guess that's less easily spoofed by pictures.

Apple's Face ID uses the same technology as Windows Hello - in fact Apple bought the company that made the Xbox Kinect camera (PrimeSense) in order to make Face ID.

Less good experience with Curtain Studio who AMI referred the job too. The person came to visit to measure up for the quote and show samples etc and we picked what we wanted (also whilst they had a big sale on we decided to get the same ones for the bedrooms at the same time which we'll pay for on top of the insurance amount. The quote had to be revised at least 5 times due to mistakes (things missing, the same thing on their twice etc) which highlight the importance of checking these things line by line before accepting. And she had to come back two more times due to forgetting some measurements and leaving a piece of equipment behind. Eventually got it finalised in mid August and told "4-6 weeks" for all to be ready. AMI paid out the insurance part immediately. No contact from Curtain Studio throughout September so at start of October a call to the local store told us "by the end of the month." A further call later in the month for an update said "should be ready by 26th." Another call last Monday (31st) said "the system is still showing 26th so you should get a call for installation by the end of the week." Still waiting. Realise there may be staff shortages and supply issues etc, but some communicaton would be appreciated.

Further update: heard nothing last week so my wife called today and was told "we've had the stuff in the store since 26th and have been waiting for your final payment before arranging installation." She nearly lost it. All along they've said they would let us know when it was all ready and needed to be paid (we paid 50% deposit when the quote was finalised), and now they say they've been waiting for payment without having told us it was ready. She gave them a bit of blast over the phone, but sounded like it was a trainee who had no clue. They'll be getting some feedback once it's all installed.

Whiteflies

Very small, and really annoying.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Mel Giedroyc's commentary in Handmade (Fridays, TV1). Couldn't they have something less annoying like a barking dog or rusty squeeking wheel in the background? Compare her annoying nonsense to Jay in the Repair Shop that precedes it...

This rubbish appearing at the bottom of Reddit -

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.” -John Kenneth Galbraith

Sudden failure of an HDMI cable that's been happily sitting untouched behind the TV for two years.

The number of my Geekzone posts that I have to edit because they looked just fine with no typos, until after I click POST and then discover this glaring error that should have been completely obvious... 🙄

Hardly worth fighting Noel Leeming for a cable. My post was more around my incredulity when something with no electronics just failed for no obvious reason.

afe66: Tracking my parcel as it jumps across the world from uk 8 stops so far including the od one saying something about customs clearance, pretty seamless.

Final arrives in Auckland (I don't live in auckland) up posts "Package is delayed in transit. Delivery will be rescheduled. Check back or signup for UPS My Choice to receive updates"...

It might just be awaiting customs clearance in which case say that... but I'm left with feeling that something has gone wrong only when it hits nz...

Experiencing this right now 😡

Ugh, yep. I'm dealing with this one at the moment, which has great tracking until it suddenly stops.

I was joking about the fact that the two-year-lifetime probably corresponded to a two-year-warranty running out. It's also not necessarily passive, USB-Cs (technical USB 3.1+) have active circuitry in them and some HDMI cables are also active.

My caffeine-deprived brain missed that! Maybe that's a small annoyance too :)

It's been passed on to the line haul carrier, you may not get any updates until it arrives in NZ. Or, depending on the carrier, until it arrives at your door. So its annoying, but doesn't indicate a problem.
