Having a quick look through some of Brendan Kavanagh youtube videos, he does appear to be deliberately confrontational at times, and I would also say a lot of it appears to be staged.

The sad thing is that Taiwanese media provided the least biased and most accurate coverage.

Western media took the video at face value, and of course the Chinese media never covered it.

Probably because it's a non-story, utterly unimportant in the big scheme of things.

If there was an official complaint from the Chinese Embassy then I could see taking new dimensions.

Otherwise, it is just a bunch of wannabe influencers looking for 30-second fame and clicks.

Which British pianist?

Which British pianist?

The one that is milking his bad encounter with some Chinese people for all he can get from it.

Let it be known I hate the Chinese Communist party. But I don't like being played.

Event timeline

Brendan Kavanagh shows up at a British railway station.

There's a public piano. While not strictly needed, he did not let anyone know he was going to play it, as it's against his policy to ask permission to preform in any public place. (fine, I don't care)

Chinese Youtube influencers, who are also British citizens, are videoing themselves. They are dressed in red, waving Chinese flags.

They are waiting for the arrival of some Chinese VIP at the railway station (probably somebody from the CCP)

Assistants are carrying yellow cards saying "don't video us or there will be legal repercussion" (of course this is wrong as it's a public space)

Brendan Kavanagh meets and greets the Chinese youtubers, and even pretend dances with the presenter.
--------------------------------------
Where Brendan video starts
--------------------------------------
Brendan walks over to piano, and his assistant begins taping their own segment.

The assistant video tapes the Chinese in the background who are already unhappy.

Loudly talks about the Chinese as Japanese tourist to bait them.

Planned chaos begins, and the Chinese youtubers in their arrogance fall into his trap. They could have walked away but of course they didn't.

Again I'm not defending the Chinese, but I got played by the pianist also.

kingdragonfly:

A show called "Talk TV Tonight Mike Graham" will be posted on the Internet sometime in the next few days with an interview with the musican.

Good old Mike Graham, the guy has certainly picked some interesting media outlets to appear on.

I didn't know Japan had a death penalty.

I know Japanese police interrogations and incarceration are brutal.

(unrelated to the Kyoto Animation killings, no sentence has yet be given to the assassin of Shinzo Abe, the former prime minister of Japan)

There is Singapore as well, seems to outrank Japan despite its small size.
I expect you really don't want to do anything there to draw Police attention.

Surprisingly Streaming pests like Johnny Somali and others got away with all sorts in Japan for a very long time.
Though tolerance has its limits.

Its a bit of a list but Japan is nowhere near the top for actually execution of sentences.

How many countries still have the death penalty, and how many people are executed?

Like the United Nations General Assembly, I consider the death penalty to be incompatible with human rights. No state governed by the rule of law may commit a state-legitimised murder (as a form of retribution), but must use other suitable methods of punishment, including life imprisonment.

Eva888:

I only watched half the video because it irritated me and found the Brit racist and antagonistically trying to bait the Asians who were being polite and asking that their images were not recorded. It should have ended there. OK mate…I won’t record you was sufficient and a respectful way of closing the discussion. The piano playing however was brilliant.

I didn't see any racism.

There's other video online of the Chinese women being very friendly and talkative with the pianist prior to the confrontation.

Another video suggests that the "handler" didn't arc up until another woman arrived. The inference being he had to be seen to be taking charge or something to that effect.

This woman be seen lurking in the background talking to another person. She had been identified some time previously by the British authorities as a Chinese spy.
