I just got my first 230V mains shock.

My piece of junk Whirlpool oven has a tiny plastic switch cover designed to fail after 5 years of use. Of course it's irreplaceable, and such a common problem the motherboard is unavailable also.

I pulled out the teeny tiny switch.

I was expecting 5 to 12 V current flowing through it and its tiny wires, and been using it for months.

I touched both contacts on the back, and got a mains shock.

Compared to the US 120 VAC shock, it was a lot more painful. I used to brush off 120 V shocks as just a nuisance.

The 230V equivalent pulsed a lot harder.

I just think the breezy commercials are a little one-sided and gloss over the very real issues many older people have to contend with.

Not sure how that is relevant, Next it will be shouldn't advertise new cars since some people cant afford them.

It is relevant because this is the Annoyances thread, and it annoys me.

My Doctor wife tells me even if you feel 100% fine, you should call your GP or Healthline and advise them. You could have damage which you won't be able to detect.

Electric Shocks are serious things. My FIL had one, felt fine, wife made him go to doctor, needed treatment.

Don't be brave, it's worth a quick call.

Particularly when you're sitting in Akl airport and they've closed the runway because of it.

I have tried and tried to grow tomatoes, I have black fingers. I have bought all the right things, followed all the advice etc. End up with bug eaten or rotted or just generally bland results.

Comparatively my MIL dumps some seeds in unprepared soil at our home, comes over twice a week to water them, stakes them and ends up with massive tasty delicious tomatoes.

I'm a bit like that. Don't know anything about gardening, don't care enough to find out, but my tomato harvests are spectacular. Other things less so, but tomatoes really seem to like me for some reason.

With this weather even the pros are struggling. Last summer was better. Too much rain when you want little and you don't stand a chance. Try again next year.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Sadly it's not a one off issue, I've tried many times :)

I just suck at growing stuff. Except Kids. The kids are growing like weeds.

The problem is you're feeding them too much and not working them hard enough.
Ten hours a day down the mine six days a week, and two meals a day: that'll fix your problem
🤣🤣🤣

*TWO* whole meals a day? That's twice as much as now! 10 hours a day is only half a day, do you think we are running a resort?

6 days a week, good grief, currently they are working 8 days a week and I am not reducing it at all :)

I take the brute force approach, keep throwing stuff at the ground until some of it refuses to die, then plant more of that stuff.

On top of the weather, I'm also fighting a massive white fly infestation. I'm now ordering special wasps to help with that. I'm not giving up on gardening. The kids have now all moved out (youngest just before Christmas), so I need something to keep my mind from stressing!

I'm a geek/nerd gardener. I could post a tomato rant here but I won't! :-)

Single piece of advice is mulch, I use grass clippings. Weed barrier (handy) but the key is maintaining soil moisture and temp. Plants hate stress, same for dry then wet then dry, (or vice versa) mulch helps that a lot. It's ALL about the soil. Organics and organics, friable, and mulched.

Mine are too, I will be freezing tomorrow. This time of year they should be 95c a kilo, but they seem to be $9-$12. Yes, I know there are massive weather issues up north. Here in CHC its dry as a bone
