kingdragonfly: What footage appears to show is an Airbus A320 or A321 that isn't really sure where or how high it is, and I'm sure you understand that this can be a rather nasty situation to be in."

They know exactly how high they are. They are getting spurious terrain warnings. The TAWS systems is confused.

It's not nasty but is rather unhelpful. There are ways to deal with it.

This guy's a bit of a privileged American, who can definitely compete with a whinging pom, but I can empathize.

If it was Mexico, I'd say it was Una mordida / las mordidas, bribes / back-handers.

I don't think I'm ever going to understand the music industry.

1980s music video. Shot on film. HD master created two decades ago. Released on Blu-ray.

Then we have the copy on YouTube, which is labelled "official HD video"... and has been upscaled from SD.

WHYYYYYYY?

And I bet the upscaled one has a 4:3 content in a 16:9 video with black bars on the side screwing up watching it on your phone.

Actually, no, it's in true 4:3. However, I hadn't even considered aspect ratios, and it seems there could be a grain of truth in your suspicion. The Blu-ray version is in 1.85:1, presumably with the top and bottom cropped (I'm too lazy to actually check at the moment). I suspect that they didn't have an HD master handy for the 4:3 version.

I am just watching the beginning of the superbowl on TV One. What an over the top backward bizarre barbarian spectacle this is! I keep expecting lions and Roman gladiators to emerge at any moment. When do they start sacrificing virgins to the volcano god?

Have you any idea how expensive and difficult it would be to find a virgin in Vegas?

Its a bit of a puzzle as these temperatures are not unusual for peak of summer in Auckland.
This week is forecast to be a bit cooler than last week?

Been on trains in Melbourne in hotter conditions, maybe hotter and colder in one day :-)
Queensland has trains too.

Trains cancelled across Auckland due to ‘heat’

“Some train services on Eastern, Western, and Southern lines have been cancelled due to weather (heat) conditions,” Auckland Transport posted to social media.

The train lines will be affected from 1pm to 8pm.
""
As of 1pm it was 23C in Auckland and expected to peak at 3pm rising to 25C.

Must be a Kiwirail special, trains in Europe don't blink at 35+ degree temps, I don't know what the track temperatures are like but I assume they'd be the same as here.

I assume Kiwirail is saving the "wrong kind of snow" excuse for an extra special occasion. Or the wrong kind of sunlight.
