Just finishing The Outsider, a ten part series based on yet another Stephen King novel happening in the middle of small town America. Has been very good even if a bit of a let down at the end.

Agreed. It's well put together.

Currently watching Upload and really enjoying it. It's billed as a comedy, mystery, sci-fi and reminds me a lot of The Good Place.

I often feel a profound sadness when a series ends, especially one that has run for a long time, where I have watched every episode. Criminal Minds series finale was poignant given how young I was when I started watching it and most those actors, I feel like I 'grew' up with.

The last 2 seasons were the best for a while.

This year for obvious reasons there hasn't been the usual new series starting from the established usual suspects and whilst I have enjoyed some of the series of the NF and Amazon Prime streaming services, they don't quite have the production values of say CBS or ABC I don't think.

I think I'd strongly disagree with that statement.
One of the best things about Netflix in my mind is the production of their original series is usually significantly better than those of network television.
What's missing from a lot of original streaming content is regurgitated, formulaic story lines and characters.

I'm up to season 2 of The Man in the High Castle. Amazon Prime Video

For those three or four people that haven't yet seen it (I only discovered it a few weeks ago) it's an alternate look at America, if the Germans and Japanese won WW2.

I've really enjoyed the first season and am totally engrossed in this show...I've bought into the characters and even the attempts to humanise the most evil of characters is a really interesting twist, in my opinion.

9/10 from me.

You could check more TV series using similar ideas out of the alternative history (or alternate history) subgenres of literature.

Another recent series in a similar space is A History of America, based on the Philip Roth novel and created by David Simon (he of the GSEM - The Wire). Kim Hill interviewed him on this a couple of months back.

The premise is Charles Lindbergh beats Roosevelt to become president in 1940. While clearly not written to have parallels with the current state of the US (think it was in response to Iraq), many have apparently made the connection!

I've watched one episode but my wife found it somewhat forboding and depressing so we haven't watched more.

How have others found this?

The book is worth a read but I actually found it slightly disappointing compared to the TV series. Funnily enough I had the same experience with Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep, I find Philip K Dick’s writing hasn’t aged well and his characters are often not likeable.
Just finished reading Altered Carbon and looking forward to watching that

I was watching this and really quite enjoying it - until (I think in S2) they started talking about parallel universes, at which point I lost interest and never went back.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Do you mean The Plot Against America? I watched it and really liked it. I was hoping for a second series but I don't think that's likely since there's no more source material to use.
