You have the option to opt out.. It's called disconnecting yourself from the internet.

My personal feeling is that anyone who wants to censor the internet should freely avail themselves of that option.

If you turn on your computer and load a browser, it doesn't just pop up on your screen. You get that right?

There are better, more effective solutions for blocking porn that trying to make ISPs do it. Why are you proposing a FAR LESS EFFECTIVE solution be put in place if you really think it should be blocked?

You have avoided answering ALL the good questions put forward and fall back on the incredibly lazy "won't someone think of the kids" emotive response or variations.

So why block one type of legal material and not others?
Why not block material on alcohol misuse?
Bullying?
Why force everyone to have this put in place when there are already MULTIPLE BETTER OPTIONS available for those that do want it?
Why load the cost against everyone when only a small number of people want ISPs to censor legal material?

Start addressing the big issues instead of asking "why not?"

I have watched porn before, plenty of it when I was young too. It did make me feel guilty and if I was watching it today I certainly would not like my wife to find out about it.

Besides. If I did watch porn on the side today, it would probably not please my wife either.

I wonder how many wives out there would be happy if they knew their husbands were watching porn. I certainly don't think that many wives would be happy about it.

I suppose having to "opt in" to porn is not really a solution for all of those late night porn surfers. I can understand now why so many are against this.

Lets see. All the kids homework is done via the internet.
Then their are all the school projects etc .. Chatting to family and friends.

I dont fear the internet. We embrace it heavily in our house. All I am saying is that an "opt out" of certain stuff would make our lives as a parent a little easier.

Why not make it? ----- an "opt in" option vs an "opt out" option.

The whole opt out option feels a little like a gun to the head.

Seriously, I expect that most logical adults will educate their children about most things that have the potential to cause issues in their young lives - crossing the road, sex education, right/wrong, drugs, driving etc etc.

I personally class internet-savviness a big part of that!

Already my four year old is tech savvy - he gets how to use a mouse and an ipad. The kids that are brought up now will generally be far more technology-literate than any of us oldies were.
Teaching them safe use of said technology will be a challenge but one Im personally looking forward to embracing

The force is strong with this one!

Sure, some will be against it for this. Many more are against the *idea* of mandated censorship of legal content. This has been raised many times in this thread, and so far the only argument against that is, effectively, "LALALALALALA". Noones forcing you to view this content, so don't view it?

Er, as in the post you've quoted, Klip was specifically saying an opt-out would make things easier, and I was responding that there are already opt-outs available. That's completely unrelated to the discussion over the pros and cons of opt-out vs opt-in. By your logic, wibble-deeble boop-boop wop.

Yes you are.. We're talking about having ISP's implement a censorship filter that effectively ban's porn unless you opt out of it. You can try and spin that however you like it but it's a ban of sorts nonetheless..

I don't have a problem with you being able to opt out of having porn available on your internet connection. No-one does.

The argument is about forcing others to adopt your views via censorship.

Frankly I don't care if the ISP's offer a porn filter, so long as it doesn't effect my porn watching.
