VTNZ removing the one thing that made them a useful WoF outlet.  Now you basically have to book in rather than just dropping by when you are passing at a time convenient to you.

Used to be able to pick random times of day and wander through without much waiting.

I understand that it reduces the surge loads they experience so it's better for them, and reduces waiting time for customers.  Just annoying that I now have to plan ahead and actually book rather than just deciding to pop in when I'm free.

May as well just use the local garage, the reason I didn't was because I had to book...

Went there via typed url.
I have 2FA on, and added a pin after I got that email . My sister has a profile but was asleep at that time so who knows how it happened.

The sign on the wall suggests that one lane is booking required, the other lane is take your chances.  Yet "sorry, today is booking only".  So, in theory you can do a drop in but in practice probably not.

Does that go for everyone else in household?

It appeared to be a one click get it thing when I saw it on the screen at a friends place who has local amazon on their fire tv. Any chance someone else in the household pressed on that on the firetv?

Air New Zealand once again emailing me with a 'your flight has changed' and throwing downstream flight (wasn't possible on a single ticket) and accommodation bookings into disarray and invariably leaving me out of pocket.

Don't know if I'm just the unlucky one or if this is really common these days, and I know there are supply problems, but it does seem they're frivolously selling seats where they must have a fair idea that they won't be able to deliver.  No surprise their share price hasn't rebounded from covid days.

This just happened to my stepdaughter. The change in this case wasn't huge and didn't cause major disruption, but it was annoying and inconvenient. With this kind of behaviour and the removal of many domestic flights to smaller destinations around the country, it looks like Air NZ has abandoned any pretense of being a national airline that serves the needs of Kiwis.

The common one is things heat up or cool down quicker when the thermostat is set to max or min respectively. Just leave it alone and let it do its job.

Oh boy, I am now officially triggered! My car has a very good dual zone climate control system. Put it on 'auto' * and set the temperature(s) you want and let it do its thing. However... my wife insists on overriding it by fiddling with the fan setting or turning it down to "low". I try, I really try, to explain, without mansplaining, that the clever engineers know what they are doing and it is best just set and left alone. However this concept cannot be expressed without causing offence and is otherwise ignored.

What is it about wives being open to advice and helpful suggestions from anyone apart from their husbands, who despite holding STEM university degrees simply know nothing?

*IIRC the car computer has profiles for the climate control and can be set from mild through to aggressive. I should try setting it to aggressive.

I had an occasion the other day where a work colleague came into my office where the air con controls are located for our work spaces and went to turn the air con down to the lowest possible settings. There was mild consternation when I told them to leave the air con set where it was.

The misconception being that the knob directly contriols air con output.

Later in the day I explained to this person that the air con knob isn't directly connected to the temperature output of the air con unit but that it is telling a controller what temperature is required, the controller measures the office temperature and as a result the controller controls the air con output to acheive the desired temperature. I then explained that if the office temperature is warmer than the selected temperature the output of the air con will be at the maximum cold it can achieve and turning the knob has no effect.

They went away happy.

For me this is the one thing that made VTNZ usable.

Locally there was always a significant wait at any of the VTNZ centres. The only way to avoid that was to arrive well before opening time to be near the front of the queue. It was common to wait well over an hour. Some days if you turned up mid afternoon they had shut off taking any more people because of how many already in the queue.

Now I can book a time that suits and turn up. Excellent.

Best thing they ever did I you ask me.

Microsoft emailing to let me know just before Christmas that my personal M365 subscription is going up $50 from $129 a year to $179.

That's a near-40% increase!

I think as well as supply chain problems, (until recently at least, some aviation components had lead times exceeding 12 months) I believe the engine issues on the 320/1's and 787's have been a moving feast. Tickets are sold based on projected capacity and then that capacity is reduced at short notice.

This has flowed onto the turbo prop domestic network where some of the domestic jet load has been placed onto the turbo prop fleet.

In addition there is still the business as usual stuff of breakdowns and crew sickness. In the past there was sufficient headroom (spare capacity) for these disruptions to be managed without too much direct impact on customers. At the moment I think there is very litttle spare capacity so any hiccup is really noticed.

There's only so much capacity and some services are cancelled at short notoce

I think also this is why Ar New Zealand is cutting some services altogether in an attempt to get a bit of headroom back.
