Funniest thing today: walking around Petone (Wellington) I saw a poster "Myth busters" and thought it really ironic it was hanging on a crystals and other crap new age store... I thought it would be a workshop "Myth busters: crystals do work" but it was actually "Myth busters: employing disabled people works".

People who believe in psychics and ghosts can be intelligent in other ways. Religious people can be intelligent too, despite believing that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. Faith and magical beliefs are a type of brain blind spot.

ASB bank charging you txt alert fees WHEN THEY HAVE NEVER EVER SENT ME A SINGLE TEXT IN THEIR LIFE AND HAVE MY CORRECT PHONE NUMBER TOO!!!!!!

Wonder why i closed all services with them.
Oh yes also when they charge you a 20c (txt alert fee mind you) on an account with $0.00 in it then it get a $10 arranged overdraft fee. Then you call them and they say its non reversible.

I hope asb as a company get cancer.

Just went though an after-sales support ticket with an online retailer after receiving a defective product. No problems with the service; I got a replacement today. However, I also got a followup email asking me how the experience was, with two links; "I'm satisfied" and "I'm unsatisfied". I click on "I'm satisfied" and am told that the ticket is closed and can no longer be rated. Hooray...

Sorry, but we can't blame the dishes.

Unfortunately, what we are observing is a natural phemonena that has fairly recently been described in the scientific literature (Lim 2005).

Here, some epidemiologists studied the phenomenon of teaspoon loss to answer two fundamental questions:

To figure out the overall rate of loss (defined, rather as ‘displacement’) of teaspoons at their institute, and
To find if any possible correlation exists between the said displacement and the relative value of the teaspoons or type of tearoom,

The authors designed a longitudinal (involving repeated observations of the same variables over a period of time) cohort study, employing 70 teaspoons, discreetly numbered and placed in tearooms around the institute, and observed weekly over a period of 20 weeks, a total of 5668 teaspoon days (teaspoon days = sum of all the days on which the teaspoons were observed). They proceeded with great planning – doing first a small pilot study to determine feasibility, followed by a main study with a larger cohort.

During the main study, half of the total teaspoons disappeared permanently (defined as the ‘half life of the teaspoons’) in 81 days. The type of tearoom setting (communal vs. isolated rooms linked to specific departmental programs) affected the rate of loss, with more spoons leaving the former than the latter. The quality of the material (stainless steel) of the spoon was not a factor in the rate of loss.

The authors discovered that the incidence of teaspoon loss was high enough to warrant an annual purchase of estimated 250 teaspoons, in order to maintain a practical institute-wide population of 70 teaspoons, and concluded that office teaspoons, in their institution, are under constant threat of disappearance. Which is perhaps not surprising, given that, in a follow-up questionnaire, 38% of respondents (from a pool of 90-odd employees) admitted to stealing a teaspoon at least once in their lifetime, and 17% disagreed that stealing teaspoons is wrong.

Attempting to explain the phenomenon of uncontrollable teaspoon displacement, the authors drew analogies with the Tragedy of the Commons, whereby there is over-exploitation of shared resources by individuals, who – in spite of being aware that the depletion of shared resources is ultimately detrimental to all users – nevertheless persist in that behavior finding no harm in the fractional loss via their own agency.

The author recommended the development of effective control measures to deter the migration of teaspoons, ranging from designing (or renovating) tearooms to equip them with continuously monitored surveillance equipment – to tagging individual teaspoons via Microchips and Global Positioning Satellite (GPS)-based tracking systems.

Were they caused by others getting connected and them being rough as with the splices and breaking them?
