I saw this in the news a few days ago. I want to try this so badly it hurts.

floydbloke:As a grumpy middle aged man I consider it my duty to frequently tut-tut and shake my head at the behaviour of youth these days.
In this case however, it made me smile that these kids are smarter than their school principal and one of the mums at least.
We clocked over a couple of investment milestones this month. It helps to justify some of the sacrifices we've made, especially remaining overseas.
Seeing my eldest son head off to school for a couple of days, to have some sense of normalcy in his last few weeks of NCEA-level school this year.
He's also seeing off a few friends who will be leaving school this year, so it's a bit bittersweet for them all.
What really made me smile though, was the enthusiasm with which he bounded out of bed at 7.25am and into the shower ready to catch the bus at 8am. He's been getting up around 9.30am during the whole of lockdown, so this has been a nice change.

Remembering the reaction on my youngest's face when I got her a soft toy she was wanting - put it on her bedside table at 3am (I had just got home from a o/seas flight).
She sensed someone was there and opened her eyes sleepily, saw me, and instantly closed eyes again - then something kicked in and eyes opened again, looked straight at the soft toy, grabbed it and snuggled it and went straight back to sleep with a smile on her face.

MadEngineer: Free 40th anniversary catalog from Jaycar
Is this an time-delayed post or have they done an unscheduled catalog? It usually comes out around May.
It always makes me smile when I find a cool solution for an annoying problem.
The problem is toothpaste tubes. Some can just be folded up as you use them, so you can keep squeezing the toothpaste out. But others, for some reason, don't stay folded. The toothpaste spreads out through the tube and as it empties, squeezing it becomes a two-handed job since you have to work the toothpaste forward. I ran into this issue when I switched to Sensodyne.
The cool solution is a binder spring clip. This can be clipped over the end of the tube as it is rolled up, keeping it in place. The toothpaste can then easily be squeezed with one hand.

Isn't that the one that stands on its cap? I thought that more or less ensured that you'd get everything out.

When you squeeze the tube, the toothpaste spreads in all directions and if the tube is partly empty, it doesn't really emerge. You have to roll up the tube and hold it with one hand while squeezing with the other. This is my experience. The clip effectively shortens the tube so that doesn't happen.

The BBC coverage of our Bird of the Year contest:
New Zealand bat flies away with bird of the year award
A bat has been named as New Zealand's bird of the year, in a controversial move that has ruffled feathers.
The long-tailed bat had swooped in to clinch the title following an online poll.
Contest organisers had included the bat, one of the country's few land-based native mammals, to raise its profile as a critically endangered species.
But the victory has annoyed some, with one commenter saying the country had gone "batty".
