Stu: Fibre. Three outages to our fibre connection in a little over a year. Compare this with at most two or three network side outages with ADSL/VDSL since aaaaaaages ago.

Hopeless

Were they caused by others getting connected and them being rough as with the splices and breaking them?

Chorus tech confirmed the fault was apparently caused by rough handling again.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

worthless feedback people post on things. Like

People who make no attempt to pronounce my wife and kids names correctly even though they have known us for years. Even when the topic has been raised repeatedly they still get it wrong. They aren't hard either, phonetically they are the same as any other 'English' words.

But also strangers who don't even bother to ask how they are pronounced in the first place.

I'm used to Kiwi's always spelling my name wrong but in the 13 years we've been in NZ only twice has someone asked how to pronounce my sons name when they've seen it for the first time.

So how do you pronounce it? On a similar note, I am driven crazy by the English-speaking world's obstinate refusal to even consider taking the trouble to learn to approximate the correct pronunciation of great Dutch scientist's names like Oort and Huygens and especially, Kuiper. It isn't rocket science, people.

Try people who can reply to your email and still get the name wrong - when in doubt "copy and paste". I've been addressed as Marco, Mario, Mark, Maurice, Marico, Maurico and all other variations. In writing.

They are all Dutch names, so you have hit the nail on the head !

Yep, my email has my name too., so does my email signature.

I use usernames such as martyyn (GZ) and martyyyn (elsewhere) in order to emphasise I have a 'y' and not an 'i' in my name. It's common in England but no-one here bothers. I even have friends who email me as martynn !

When I make myself a tea, forget the tea bag in the cup, remember 20 minutes later and the tea is too strong and too cold to drink, so I go back to the kitchen to make a new tea ... and the same thing happens again ...

Argh. Arrive home Friday afternoon to have an NZ post courier card. The last thing I want to do before a long weekend is drive to the East Tamaki depot. My tracking says no signature required, the shipping instructions say leave at the back door. The item isn't valuable so I don't care if it got flogged. I just wanted it before the weekend.
Weirdly the phone prompt says to go to the website to organise redelivery. So I do, then it says login (seems my youshop account works) then there is no actual redelivery option?
I wonder if they are pushing at the $5 redelivery fee? Which is still no good as they might try deliver it, I won't be home again and they won't leave it! It would've fit in the bloody mailbox too.

Mine today was package clearly labeled EB games just left in a tin box at the end of the driveway despite authority to leave saying to leave in the carport. Not like any punkass little kid will see that envelope and not steal it when its in plain sight.

Some amusement to offset the annoyance: Passed someone in the street today with an old Telecom shirt advertising the CDMA network. Don't let the corporate office see that! :)

I spent All Day tidying the garage, except for one break when I was permitted to take some of the tidied up stuff to the tip. Then it got dark, I got fed up, and crammed everything I had pulled out back in. There is now no discernible different to when I started.
