The rain has arrived.

The wind is here, on and off.

Nothing too bad yet in Auckland but I guess it's just the start.

Definitely not as bad as a couple of weeks ago but I suppose it's early days yet.

Apparently it's meant to peak later today or overnight/early tomorrow.

Really has set in where i am in auckland (north shore). Cat is not happy as I won't let him outside.  Cat does not like heavy rain or high winds and thinks it better to be outside that in.  Litter box is down for him and cat door blocked, see how long before he goes really nuts. Job this morning packing a "get out fast" bag, we were fine a couple of weeks ago in all the rain, i am more worried about the wind than rain.

heavenlywild: Why would the cyclone change paths and move in a more south easterly direction when it arrives? Why would it not keep its current track in a more easterly direction

Just curious.

sea temperature is cooler as it comes south so it looses strength. rotation speed, difference in temp from one side to the other, will influence its path. however as its highly turbulent, it makes it a lot less predicable.

then there is also the weather around it. if there is a blocking air mass, that can cause a change of direction. which is what we saw with the last one. it went from eastly direction to south west as it bumped into a blocking high.

Thanks. That prediction is the eye  is over AKL 3am Monday and Coromandel 8am Monday. It should go East but reports are of the high pressure area being a block

Uhh, have you considered that you're actually making things worse for him? Our cat is a bit funny with heavy rain on the roof as well and heads outside for a bit, then comes back in. If we locked her inside she'd go nuts, but she's perfectly happy sitting outside for a bit and then coming back in.

Power cut now in my area of Auckland.

Weather doesn't seem so bad so this is a bad sign of what's to come.

Wind is steady, not gusty. Steady is good, even if it is blustery. It's the sudden wind gusts that I'm worried about.

It's got lot more grim, looking at Vector's map it looks like around 50% of their coverage area north of about Albany has no power.

strange weather in Rotorua , the wind has died away and we have light rain. Bit like a disaster movie all calm just before the proverbial hits the fan

Common sense is not as common as you think.
