Behodar:

Paul1977: You can Google them, but that takes up a lot more of your time compared to the 2 seconds saved by the person who typed the acronym. I personally don't like any time saving method that results in the other party having to expend more time.

Things like LOL and WTF are pretty universally recognised, but ones I've come across here that I've had to Google are IANAL, FTFY, SWMBO, YMMV, IIRC, and many others.

It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying to have to Google the meaning of something written in an English language forum.

I remember running into something like "This is a completely stupid idea SMH" and all I could think was "Sydney Morning Herald". Turns out that it means "shaking my head"...

So glad I'm not the only one... :)

My toaster.

Undercooks. Burns. One side pale the other burnt. Doesn't pop up.

I dont think I've ever owned a toaster that did what it said on the box.

Buy a Dualit.

Not only will it make the best toast ever, but also it will last long enough to go in your will.

These, plus QFT, are pretty much geek/forum speak going back to IRC days... and considering where we are ... :D

I reset a windows notebook today that had been out on loan. Afterwards it wouldn't download Windows Updates (but nagged me about it). Wouldn't download Windows Defender definitions (but nagged me about it). Wouldn't let me browse any websites, including microsoft.com, without multiple warnings about certificates being invalid. Wouldn't let me download Chrome to try and work around the Edge/IE issues.

Eventually (very eventually. After much frustration) I twigged that it also wasn't getting a network time - it thought it was still March. Which meant that it thought all the certificates were post dated. Which was what was stopping Windows Update, Defender Update, and setting the blasted clock to the right time.

Manually set the time and all problems solved. My own dimwittedness at fault but still *really* annoying.

Holy crap. I just looked up Dualit Toasters. At that price you would expect them to last generations.

Plumbers that will "be there after 2.30" that turn up at 6pm... with the basin that was faulty, so they go back and get the proper one and really arrive at 7.10 on a friday night.

Nearly cost me a job interview.

And bake + self-insert the bread!

And you wouldn't throw one of those in a bath with someone you hate.
