The way United & Delta have treated their passengers recently.    And if the other passengers did not have smart phones the airlines would be getting away with it.    I've flown United a few times and had nothing but great service from very experienced and professional crew members so I'm  equally angry and sad I think.

I've heard a few times that United International and United Domestic are as different as chalk-and-cheese when it comes to service and professionalism.

Dropping my phone in the street today and shattering the screen.

My son dropped his LG phone and shattered the screen. He wanted to get a new phone.  I asked if he'd give me the old one - yup - no problem.

Hands it to me, and I go on Ebay and buy a new screen as he watches - for (IIRC) US$35.  It arrives from China in about 3 days.

Not being a regular screen replacer technician - in fact this was the very first time - I get full instructions via the net.  First problem was that the little connectors are really tiny, and with my aged decrepitude and inevitable presbyopia, my +1 reading glasses were a fail WRT to seeing WTF I'm doing.  So a trip needed to pick up some +2.  Next was that the detailed instructions said that there were 17 (IIRC) ribbon connectors.  These now removed, as I know what I'm doing as I read it on the net, and the motherboard just doesn't want to come free.  I think about just wrenching it out, but nah - in a rare moment of lucidity, I figure that the instructions from the net may have been incomplete.  Sure enough, peering in behind, there's connector #18.  That sorted, new screen in position, I realise that it's going to fall to pieces, as the double-sided tape holding the thing together has lost its stick.  After about an hour of searching, I found some stuff I knew I had in the basement. Reassembled, I hit the power button, and after a few seconds delay, one of the most exciting experiences of my sad life, the LG logo appeared on the screen, and it booted up.  Yay - still had about 1/2 hour left of an entire day to clean up, wipe the phone, do all the update crap, set up my accounts etc, then leave the thing - with deliberate deceptive intent - to look very casually placed on the coffee table where it would be noticed.

Son comes home - and I'm sure he pretended not to notice the now pristine fully functional phone on the coffee table.  It annoyed me slightly that I had to say "hey - do you like my new phone?" to initiate conversation, yeah,  - you didn't need the new phone, blah blah - parental lecture.  You - he picks up "my" phone, plays with it for a few minutes, pronounces it "good as new".  Didn't take me long - I lie.

I give him sh*t about wasteful consumerism for a whole week, parading my new phone at him from breakfast through to late at night.

On day 8, while on a stepladder, and leaning forward in a non-OSH approved manner, my new "refurbished" LG cellphone slid from my pocket, lands glass first on concrete, the screen shatters. Hmmm...

This small event really annoyed me.

The puppy I can hear barking because some unkind owner has decided to leave it to sleep outside, separated from it's pack and in the 4 C temperature.

TV 3 and their insistence on showing banner ads during the show.

You already use 15 mins every hour showing crap I don't really care for, do you have to ruin bits of the bloody show too?

Also: the permanent display of station ID logos on screen.

Dont get a kambrook. Slowest thing ever. So slow. Ive finished my coffee before toast is done.

Surely toasting time is a function of the bread composition? Heating faster than X will just burn it? Heating slower than X won't caramelise the surface?

The time to get Vogels toasted to a decent brownness is longer than the longest option on our Breville toaster.

Queenstown Novotel has the worst toasters at the breakfast buffet.

Rubbish domestic ones quite clearly not intended for commercial use that take an epoch to make toast, resulting in queues of bored looking guests waiting for toast as their eggs go cold.

Just buy a Dualit. The toast even tastes better!

Even worse was the bright green channel number indicator some people used to leave displayed the entire time on their TV before the logos were continuously broadcast. At least the logo isn't quite as intrusive but certainly annoying all the same.

I find that wee logo very useful when tuning TV's and other receivers. Without it you could wait some time before knowing what channel you were on.

Ten years ago I would have agreed with you - digital tv, along with the epg, makes it irrelevant now.

I'm prepared to forgo that convenient logo for that once in a blue moon situation - especially since you have only a 65% chance of seeing it since they don't have them on during the advertisements. Then again, I don't see any TV anyway these days except when I happen to be at someone else's house while it's on.

Daylight Savings Time. In Europe it seemed to make sense. Gorgeous summer evenings with sunsets that lingered until 10 pm. Here it just annoys me. I don't see a significant difference in daylight hours, but jumping the clock around disorients me and I can't get used to it. The time just feels wrong and I keep thinking it is an hour earlier or later or whatever. By the time I finally adjust to it, the clock jumps again. Just leave it alone and get used to the seasonal changes.

Yeah. What gets me is not the act, but that the act has kept repeating itself. Its been in the news, yet its still no issue to treat people like that.
