Tried watching Once Upon a Time - the fairytale series. Was bored and saw it'd been going for many seasons, so thought it might be interesting.

I have to say - it's cheap, poorly acted and quite cringe-worthy. I won't be continuing. Amazes me that there are a couple of notable actors in the mix on this one, too: Robert Carlyle and Jamie Dornan. Must've been a decent paycheck in hard times.

I agree with all this. It is a major achievement and it is fascinating to see the creative process, the interpersonal relationships and all that. My comment is purely about the length.

Yes but you also implied sleep-inducing (= boring?) - not 'long but interesting'. So maybe not just about the length?

IMO the biggest issue with Get Back is the way it's been marketed. It was never going to be a crowd pleaser. Its for those interested in who was (arguably) the greatest band ever writing their last album, in great detail.

I enjoyed it, but I certainly wouldn't go recommending it to people who didn't have a long attention span and a big interest in the Beatles.

Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime.

Based off a 13! book series in the fantasy/swords and sorcery genre.

I've read and enjoyed the books several times so have been looking forward to these.

Quite different from the books, but really enjoying it so far. My wife who read book one and didn't like it is also enjoying the show.

If you're into fantasy, swords and magic and big complicated worlds probably right up your alley.

Story is Jeff Bezos said 'get me my own game of thrones' and this is one of the tries. The LoTR series is the other one. IMHO this is not comparable to GoT - Wheel of time the magic etc is a lot more pronounced and the story is more traditional fantasy. Different, but good.

What's the "adult" content like? Is it as violent and sexually charged as GoT?

Edit: Thinking of whether this would be suitable fare for the wife as well. The above was what put her off about GoT - she lasted half an episode.

Wheel of time has one violent scene in the first episode - a battle scene against monsters, then it's minor blood and gore as the series progresses - couple of fight scenes over 4 episodes - again monsters killing villagers mostly.
No nudity that I can recall so far, and the books didn't do much in the way of that either.

Nothing like GoT in that respect.

I have complained before how the first 2 episodes have felt rushed and lack character development, but episodes 3 & 4 are much better, slower pace and you are getting to know the characters now.
Definitely enjoying it more now as the season progresses.

Will be reading the books again soon. It's reminded me that I really like the novels.

Cowboy Beebop on Netflix. Surprisingly free of the things that usually spoil Netflix shows and quite fun.

The Beatles: Get Back, on Disney+...

I was sleeping two thirds into the first episode. Not sure why Peter Jackson had to make it as slow-moving (but without the magnificent scenes) as the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I am not sure I will finish the first episode or watch the rest.

TBH I've never much liked the Beatles so a 10 minute runtime would count as too long for me!

Annika - Female Detective in charge of the Marine Crimes department in a Glasglow law enforcement agency. Enjoyable so far. 7/10

Where? Doesn’t register on JustWatch.

There’s one called Annika on Vibe, Sky Channel Tuesday 7.30pm. Looks like first one.

It doesn’t show with searches on Sky Go and earlier in day didn’t show searches  on online Guide, though showing there now.

Started watching Hawkeye on Disney +

Rather surprisingly, it didn't star Trapper John MD or Klinger/Radar/Hotlips Hoolahan, but I really enjoyed it.

I like the wee nods back to the Avengers films and the scene in the theatre with the musical is hilarious.

Only seen episode 1, so it's a good start.

Dec 1 (2 for us) Lost in Space Season 3 is out! Wicked. I hope it goes back to what S1 was, which was in many ways better than S2.

I actually watched a couple of old episodes from the old series and that was interesting too.

@Handsomedan I echo the above. Much less gruesomely violent than GoT and what little sexual content there is is very discreet.

There is one scene in the first episode that is pretty intense, and the start of another has a ugly moment, but in the scheme of things not too bad.

I recommend you and your wife give it a go, and look forward to your review.

The Beatles - Get Back

Yes I know, yet another post, but.............

I grew up with The Beatles, 5 years too young to ever see them live (i did manage the Rolling Stones at age 14 in 1969 at the Greens Playhouse in Glasgow).

I remember to this day exactly where I was when The Beatles break up was announced, where I was when both Abbey Road and Let It Be came out as albums. They are pictures in my mind that will never go away. Equally the joy I felt when I listened to both albums for the first time especially the second side of Abbey Road which is still some of the finest music ever performed from Here Comes The Sun to The End.

I watched the original Let It Be movie when it first came out at at a mega Beatles viewing at a cinema in Glasgow starting with A Hard Days Night, followed by Help and Yellow Submarine followed by Let It Be at midnight. So powerful.

But this documentary by Peter Jackson revisiting all the footage from 1969 has been incredible. To see the gestation of songs which we all know from bare chords to the finished product culminating in a complete rendering of the rooftop concert has been a wonderful journey. To also see far more of the tensions within the band has been illuminating.

i have enjoyed every, every minute of it.

There's a trailer available for Amazon's Jack Reacher series now.  It looks like the same story as one of the Tom Cruise movies, (Killing Floor) which feels wrong to me, but it is the first JR book Lee Child wrote, so perhaps they are going to film all 25 of the books (to date).
