I was asked to remove a jersey when going through security at Wellington airport this morning. The security person placed it on the tray as I went through the scanner.

Get through the other side and the sleeve of my jersey has fallen off and is now caught in the conveyor mechanism. They had to stop the belt and fight quite hard to free the jersey. For all intents and purposes, the jersey is ruined. You can only buy them from the Lagavulin distillery.

To be fair, it probably isn't for this thread, as I am well beyond annoyed.

That's just ridiculous. The signs are quite clear that jackets come off. Not jerseys. Jerseys don't have pockets. I would make a claim against AvSec for a replacement jersey due to their negligence.

Don't you love that? Back-in-the-day I recall so many times when attending to a computer 'problem' asking what did you do or try to do when 'this thing' happend.

The answer was invariably, "Nothing" when clearly a few buttons or keys had been 😇

Still cant beat a CEO that called the external support team directly with an urgent problem that the email on their phone wasn't working late on a weekend. Clocked up all the p1 support costs to get told to turn data back on. They had been giving their phone to a kid to play games on and the 4 year old was smart enough to turn data off to stop the ads playing. The grandparent was not smart enough to turn it back on when there was no data.

Oh, I learned early on to just spout some techno-babble, look as though I was communing with the internal workings of the computer, and assure the user that "these things happen" ... that way I always got invited to the Depts/Sections afternoon teas or luncheons 🤣

Like you said, the pay still came in.

I'd prefer companies to ask for money, than run for free, and grab my data without asking.

I wondered why my monitor/GPU would disconnect at a particular time, and then come back a few seconds later

It was Google.

In particular PlatformExperienceHelper. Second gripe: happy, non-obvious program names

"Platform_experience_helper.exe" ignores Chrome's "Continue running background apps when Chrome is closed" instead creating two scheduled tasks to bypass their own pesky settings

RunPlatformExperienceHelper_Daily
Runs platform experience helper once in the future

The two tasks

send telemetry
send metrics uploads
GPU probing
launch then close a background Chrome process

You may safely disable the two scheduled tasks, without adversely affecting updates. Side note. To keep automatic Google updating just leave alone anything saying "GoogleUpdateTask"

The bug/feature of GPU probing is it while ~~alien~~ probling it, it may disconnect your GPU (screens may go blac) then reconnects it.

Just for sh and giggles, I look at Chrome's terms and conditions.

You know the same T&C that you require disputes to be resolved through binding arbitration, not in court, unless you opt out.

"All disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration."
"You waive your right to participate in a class action lawsuit."

Just so Kiwis know New Zealand does not follow the US model where arbitration clauses routinely block lawsuits. Here, arbitration clauses must pass several legal tests before they bind a consumer. Importantly unlike the US you must have genuinely agreed.

Funny how Google uses the corporate friendly US text, without mentioning the rest of world. Maybe those Google lawyers should get a pay raise so they can hire ones that realize there are things called "countries" outside of the USA.

DXGI device resets
GPU driver resets
Display pipeline reinitialization

I ordered an oven that was on massive clearance pricing and it was a week from booking till it came. $60ish to beach haven. Wouldn't fit in the car, my ute has no wof and it was going to me more to rent something for the 1.5 hours it would have taken to get it home and then take the van back to ikea.
