Seeking food and oil as usual
Seeking to be seen as a viable leader, so as to seek food and oil in the future.

Given his age, I feel its possible he could trigger something which could then escalate in a very sensitive area.
China and Russia are now peaceful but not Pro USA
China and Japan are enemies
Japan and USA are friends
Japan and PRNK are enemies

Delicate to say the least, but like the Cold War, all participants above are reasonable and mature people, apart from Kim Jong Un

I'm pretty sure one of the nukes dropped on Japan hit the wrong target. I don't think many who were; n the firing line will agree with you :-)

Your other point was spot on though, but sadly this new great leader does seem like the kind of person who will do something dumb.

All show for the local population. The Military seeing what is happening in Burma are winding up the local population to think about something other than their own miserable lives, so talk of aggression by the US and South Korea is a good thing to promote.

Of course they will not do anything because it may result in them losing power.

Looks like a very big change in policy in regards to North Korea from the South.

South Korean president Park Geun Hye has said enough is enough over ANY MORE military action against her nation.

Maybe, but before it's the start of a new beginning for anyone there will be a lot more misery & death, on both sides.

Personally, I believe this must happen. An entire nation suppressed for over 50 years, future generations will look back at this and ask 'why did it take soooooo long to react?'
Also, (personally) there is no state of war. The South does not want it. The North does not want it. It's Kim (or his handlers) seeing the writing on the wall. And between the South & the US, the Norths military's capability will be suppressed very quickly. The bigger long term issues is the anti US propaganda which is a core component of their education system. Brain washing on a national scale.

It will be a war of the minds..... This will take generations to heal. So sad........

They are merely defending South Korea and themselves, and this is based on Kim Jong Un's comments/actions. They have placed a anti missile radar off shore, thats a sound means of action IMO. Its not like they are lining up missile laden ships.

Pity is that the population are starving, and many of the NK ground troops are malnourished. They need to revolt, but I expect that action is already part of the autocracy, to ensure the leader is protected by his army from his people. Just my opinion

But technically, they are at war. The armistice was annulled by North Korea, so technically the war in the 50's is still in effect. And more to the point Kim Jong Un has declared war the other day.

The concern is a young new leader, could he react emotionally and prematurely? Could their red button process be faulty, leading to an inadvertant attack? Anything could happen here if the war of the minds accidentally became physical

Personally, the states shouldn't be flying sorties with B-2 & B-52's around the Norths borders. This I take as egging on. The South needs to be seen as the driving force on all sides of this.... And the US should be replaced by a very concerned UN. We must stand as a united global front.

Personally. I think their red button is still lacking punch (at the moment). Kim (or his handlers) have already demonstrated that they can not function on an international level (so sad for North Korea). The region is desperate for stability. The fix may start soon.

By red button, I mean the process to authorise an attack, and that going through various checks and balances to ensure the order is valid and not a communication error.

On this, I assume (dangerous word, just my opinion) that the South/US first response would be to sever all lines of communication and suppress their installations very quickly. I just can not see the North being very effective (short of a short lived border scuffle) on any military front in direct confrontation.

His only draw card are potential nuclear solutions. Based on his actions over the last few months, he needs to be stopped.

Why do you think that a war would result in things getting better for ordinary NK citizens? If there's one thing that the past 10 years should have taught you, it's that a war to effect the end of a government doesn't work, especially when the people concerned don't *want* their government ended.

Have you ever watched any documentaries on NK? I saw one several years back where a reporter posed as a member of staff on a medical team performing eye surgery, that had been allowed into NK to do some work. At the end of the documentary (all secretly filmed from hidden cameras) patients were assembled into a hall, where they walked up to a photo of dear leader, and got down on their knees crying in thanks for his gift of sight... while the surgeon who did it sat not 2 metres away.

They are brainwashed. They don't know how bad they have it. They don't *want* to be 'liberated'.
