Refunds only issued to the original purchaser (despite them no longer being the legal beneficiary of the tickets) and Trade Me response more or less "yeah, nah...sorry about that".

I'm not sure how they can tighten up the world of tickets and ticket reselling, but it certainly could do with some tightening.

One such attempt to stop scalping (or at the very least onselling) worked for Adele, while spawning its own issue

Many were of pickup type, and required the purchase credit card holder to uplift.

Perhaps it's time for the IRD to investigate the 'In Trade Partners' and the like that are on-selling tickets on a regular basis. Particularly where there is a substantial sum of money involved. If it's good enough for there to be a crackdown on cashies done by tradies, then this is just as bad. At least there are no victims in a cashie (except for the taxpayer of course).

I purchased tickets for the Foo Fighters in London a couple of years ago off Stubhub (ticket reseller) and the concert ended up being cancelled due to Dave Grohl breaking his leg. I wasn't sure what would happen with my ticket but got an email from them a few hours after the official cancellation telling me I'd receive a full refund to my credit card within a few days (which is what subsequently occurred).

My understanding in this situation is that Stubhub will simply either incur the loss themselves as part of their guarantee, or deduct the original ticket cost back from the seller who's provided them with the original ticket.

That seems sensible - but I can't see Trade Me wanting to be that close to the cutting edge of commerce. They seem to prefer arriving late to the party, having been dragged there kicking and screaming..!

Although these SBags are cancelling now the moment they see the money arrive, I'm still a firm believer the best way to strike back is leave them out of pocket and don't buy. Miss out? it wasn't meant to be.

There are people out there with genuine reasons to not make it and often sell at face value without any gain. The hassle seems to far outweigh the potential experience for anything over and above that.

It's odd. People are quick to re-share 'boycott petrol station on this day and it will hurt hard'. But happy to risk a lot more than face value for something that could cost $500-$1000 in a single motion.

Hah. So basicially, they don't want to verify against the IDs until such time they can be scanned and referenced onsite.

Knowing they can, but it won't show if it was the same one sold and sold and sold and sold.

Everyone could be walking around with a photocopy essentially.

They might not be. You will only find out when you turn up.

Seems an easy way to make money , sell your ticket multiple times.

That's not how I read it. I read that as making the perfectly valid statement "as the ticket was purchased through a venue other than us, we have absolutely no way to tell you whether the ticket has been sold to forty people or just you" which is both valid and true. I don't know how you can hold them at fault for making an absolutely truthful statement.

The real onus should be on the resellers to have some way of ensuring sellers can only resell a ticket once, such as Stubhub's policy of requiring you give them the original ticket to resell (or for eTickets, they could require the actual eTicket be given to them for each listing and reject sales where they've already seen that eTicket number on the platform).

Where the ticket has been cancelled by the original purchaser, promoter or ticket agency, that's different - that's where I'd expect the promoter or ticket agency to come to the party and confirm or deny the validity of the ticket.
