SUV owner here. You were bang on with the "6 litre" guess, it's uncanny! Six litres is my average amount of petrol used each month since buying it, at a fuel economy of 0.5 L/100km. (Plus about a dollar of electricity top-up most nights.)

I don't suppose they fly their Formula E vehicles, parts, engineers, chefs, journalists, cameramen, tyres, in electric planes? and use electric printed advertisement packs, electric packaged merchandise, and electric manufactured food/drinks/hotel/laundry and electric produced tyres and carbon fibre panels?

Like cars many of the items you mentioned are single digit contributors. The challenge is taking 20% or thereabouts off each and all those single digit items. Some areas are easier than others and some nations have a higher profile in some items and some advantages to address those. NZ is uniquely positioned to drive electric vehicles from renewable sources for instance, and uniquely positioned to develop agricultural emissions mitigation and control.

Until airships or any ships start offering regular passenger services again, flying is the only way to get there. I don't like that much, but until it changes it is a pretty stupid argument to make against those who are actually trying to do something.

If only there was some way you could do a conference without physically travelling, maybe they could do something with video links or something like that? Surely with modern tech such as ISDN or ATM networking you could get a decent video call?

I'm not so sure, although I don't know the numbers. EV's are here. Lets say next year there are more models. The Leaf looks fine, the Ioniq looks fine

Going by the other EV threads, the charging network is expanding continually, although the newer adopter market is more the use case of daily commuting.

Power. Appliances across the board are getting more and more efficient. Not just light bulbs. All this helps. Every Solar HW or PV that gets installed is reducing the load and also can be adding to the grid. Thats a double hit there. My 300L hot water cylinder hasn't talked to the grid for 6 months, it is however having a few small chats this last month!

Add in growing numbers of EV's add in growing numbers of solar users. Would be interesting to hear some numbers from the power generators.

Funny video. He is a dick, but funny with it. Also a car dealer.

Passenger cars account for half of the vehicles. That's fine. Who said EV was only for cars?

The grid would need to add 10% to cover all cars being EV. That sounds viable

Oz is 85% hydrocarbon, i.e. coal. NZ is 85% not coal. Big difference

He yakked about production, so they cannot produce enough EV anyway. He seems to hate Tesla so I assume his figures were based on Tesla. Now, there is no target to replace every car with EV next year. Not even by 2020 I heard recently.... Its funny how car production cannot manage a move to EV. In fact car production replaces itself every x amount of years, so it seems car production does actually work.
