Jaxson: One thing that gets me is the kiwi boo ing (how do really write that?!) at rugby matches when people are taking kicks etc. Man we look good overseas with that one.

Yep, I hate that too. I was at Eden Park on Saturday night, and cringed every time it happened. And if they aren't booing, people are stamping their feet to make as much noise as possible. Very poor sportsmanship shown by the Kiwi crowds. Its also hypocritical too, as many of those I saw booing would actually clap if the kick was successful, or a try was scored by the opposition.

It was interesting, I don't mind clapping if I think the opposition scores a good try, I hate it, but it takes skill to beat the All Blacks and sometimes they deserve it.

Agreed. The opposition always gets a polite clap from me when they score deservingly. The All Blacks get the royal treatment though, with screaming and furious flag waving :-)

Nah, I'm referring to us (kiwi spectators) booing other teams.

Actually I am not one for watching old games, but I happened across a J Lomu thing on youtube, and that made me clap quite enthusiastically, esp when he runs right though Mike Cat.

He's on to another winner, he should really have kept his big gob shut and kept his dignity in the whole thing.

I know, he is just a caddie after all. When his boss (the actual golf player_ won this week, when the caddie was interviewed, he almost made it sound like he had won, and it was funny that the commentators said after the interview, 'It is not often you hear from the caddie after a player has won".

Yah he is increasingly badly thought of in golfing circles I believe, though I am hardly an authority.

A bit big for his britches is my thought.

Having said that, it's the press who keep asking him for comment, it's not like he called a press conference himself.

If he decides he wants to be in the spotlight rather than the limelight he has to be prepared for the brick-bats and bouquets that come with that space.

He may have been out of line in the world of golf etiquette but his experience did contribute to the performance (as should be the case with any good caddy)... Its all just a bit odd, like the mechanic getting the credit for the win rather than the driver.

Is it true that he's NZ's richest 'sportsman' ? Either him, Scott Dixon or Dan Carter maybe

I believe that Steve Williams is or maybe now that's was NZ's highest earning sportsperson.

I think it's not just SW that's playing this up as the media has also been playing to him as well.

I think I agree that although maybe he is talking to much jobs gone get over it. As for helping out and staying with Adam Scott. I can;t see AS getting rid of him. Steve would have a huge wealth of info when it comes to what's most likely the best way to approach each shot. Plus whilst he's winning do you think he's going to be "Oh do shut up Steve your my caddy" I don't see that happening.

The way I see it the interesting thing is that the Press wanted comment from Steve Williams.

Did they interview any other caddies? Can anybody remember the last time a caddie was interviewed? Can anybody remember what Adam Scott said if he was interviewed?

I don't.

The headline was "Tiger Woods former caddie said...."

So, what Tiger's former caddie saying he had a good week is more of a headline than what Scott thought of winning or what any of the other players thought.

Then this continues to snowball.

Oh well, controversy sells. Golf sans controversy, not so much. Tiger continues to be the biggest story in golf without actually playing that well.

Its the press that pushed this, but, having said that SW shoulda just said its been the best win, as he did, than yakked about AS. That way he would have made his point, praised the winner, and as far as Tiger is concerned, he has no need to say/imply anything, as the result says it all.

It's a bit of a laugh to term the caddy as a sportsman, he is a tactician in my opinion. He doesn't actually compete in a sport as such.
