Nothing you haven't heard before, frequently, but I call it, for want of a better word - greed.

Something goes up from $12 to $14 in New World. In the unlikely event I worked out percentages correctly, thats 4 times the rate of inflation. Why ? Who knows. It sure wasn't to enable giving everyone a 4 times rate of inflation pay rise...

Depends on the "thing". Supermarkets usually price to an expected margin and the supplier prices of many items are seasonal or market priced so hard to say if the above is greed or gouging or simply an item in short supply that the supplier is charging more than last week. Cucumbers and courgettes are expensive at the moment but asparagus is ok and strawberries will be coming down in price soon.

True I guess. The thing in this case is a family mince pie. Other things in the same fridge gone up by $2 include your normal size mice pie. I thought mince / beef has gone up quite enough already, but maybe thats the pattern, and $2 increase for bacon and egg quiche, so maybe not a pattern...

Edit - might be wrong about the quiche though

Christchurch Council has replaced the underground services and installed a very wide separated cycle lane on a nearby street. The street is so narrow now that you have to find a gap between parked cars if a truck is approaching from the other direction.

Well a frozen pie is not really seasonal so that wouldn't explain it then!

Maybe, maybe not. NZ grown frozen manufactured products are lower price or specialed when the primary ingredient is lower price or in season or surplus. I expect that occurs with meat buying to some extent.

Gotta be careful with those mice pies. Especially the 3 that are blind baked.

I don't believe that I understand the point of this post...

With zero information on what the product is - and NW has a lot, from asparagus to paper plates - it is not possible to give any useful response.

I don't view every price rise as being 100% greed.

Not all costs go up (or down) in lockstep with inflation.

So, a bit of a waste of a (possibly useful) rant, really.
