I had a related one today where the serial number on the product I had called support for was so small I - literally - needed a magnifying glass (yes, I do have one on my desk!) in order to read it! It was also very long.

No doubt with lots of low resolution and font caused ambiguous characters like 0 and O, 1 and l 5 and S.

A simple update rule something along the lines of only run updates when phone is both connected to a charger and has Wifi would be better.

My stock Sony Z3 does this already, I thought it was common across Android? Will only check for updates if it's on Wifi, and will only automatically download and apply them if it has external power.

Phone makes a good magnifying glass. And can read bar-coded serial numbers too :) And can read the serial number on the back of a device without needing to pull it out of a cabinet or whatever. :)

FFS. People who take no care in packing items for couriers.

Just received a laptop with a smashed screen because it was just put in a bubble bag. I asked about the original packing and asked for it to be well wrapped if they didn't have it. They just put the power brick in on top and clearly it's had something heavy put on that.

I had one last year which was sent in a plastic bag. Yep, just a supermarket bag with a bit of sellotape. That screen was smashed as well.

How about this from the Daily Telegraph? I am a subscriber and wrote to them asking why I was still getting a pop up objecting to my use of ad blocking software on the grounds that I pay them every month anyway. This is their reply:

"Thank you for contacting the Telegraph.

Further to your recent correspondence I would like to apologise for the inconvenience you have been experiencing. The decision was made to create a soft wall to our content for any browser that has ad blocker enabled. In order to bring you award winning content and investigative journalism from your favourite writers, we rely on revenue generated by advertising.

At least we give subscribers ad free, reduced script version of Geekzone.

And we don't have pop-ups.

And we have less ads than other NZ sites.

Ha! I had not thought of it that way! Of course, the content is mostly behind a paywall, so they want to subject you to both.
