Too much gives me the shakes.
"Genuine" Italian espresso is to me the coffee I drank at friends' (from Southern Italy and Sicily) family homes, very dark roasted robusta brewed on a stovetop espresso machine. These people had adjusted to consuming massive levels of caffeine fast. It wrecked me.

NZtechfreak: The coffee I have at home is better than many cafes around Auckland and right up there with all but the very best. Not had anything remotely approaching that from any of the several Nespresso type machines I've had occasion to have drinks from before.

Having had one of NZtechfreak's coffees, they are bloody good.

This looks like an interesting deal on today for a Luigi capsule machine $199 with 24 capsules versus $399 at the supplier's main site.

Equally intriguing is this DIY process for refilling their cartridges yourself.

It's very tempting.

Those ones hold more coffee than the nespresso ones.

If anyone gets one I have a rotating capsule holder and some capsules that I was bought for xmas because the gifter did not know there was a difference.

Cheers! Always nice to have a testimonial, and from a cafe owner no less!

So is this a good deal?

I have no idea as I use a $99 warehouse nespresso based machine. I just have 30 capsules and a spinning holder sitting in my officespace wasting space waiting on an offer ;)

Just wondering if other coffee aficionados in this thread had any views on this particular machine and its price.

Yeah, I was wondering what you were asking - kinda quoted the wrong thing.

Anyway, seems to me that the machine is a good price. Doesn't come with a milk frother like the Nespresso U does (which is pretty average anyway), and personally I don't like the asthetics of the cafitally machine.  I would want to taste the stuff it produces if I were you.
The cafitally capsules are about the same price as Nespresso, but have 50% more coffee in 'em.

Nespresso shouldn't be used as any gold standard for quality - even in capsule systems:

50% more coffee than a nespresso cap is a good move by a competitor.

I'm sure the Wellingtonians will be excited!

Seeing as thread is alive, here's my latest thoughts on the topic...

If you're a flat white kinda person, you will be much much much happier with the Nespresso Lattissima.
The milk it produces is infitintly better than anything you can produce with the milk frother that comes with the Nespresso U and other smaller machines.

The Lattissima makes more silky milk with considerably less 'hard froth' than the standalone milk frother which makes pretty disappointing milk imho.
Americans seem to like their 'hard froth', but we typically have silky smooth airated milk... something the Lattisima is much better at (or less bad at) than the standalone milk frother (which also has other significant mtbf issues).
The Lattissima integrated milk container can also be easily detached and kept in the fridge when not making coffee... so you waste less moo-juice.

Just found at Countdown:

I haven't tried yet, will do tomorrow. Around $0.20 cheaper than the original Nespresso and made by Avalanche Coffee in Auckland.
