Our boy made his debut as a professional footballer over night. Haven't stopped smiling all day.

Unfortunately, I have to correct my statement due to a friendly phone call. It did not sink, but was converted into a submarine within 24 hours. :-)

I miss India, I used to go 2/3 times a year but haven't been there for 6 years now. Crazy place but love every minute of my time spent there.

Not sure if “makes me smile” is appropriate but it is a happy ending that may not have been.

We get quite a few birds flying into the glass of the two large ranch-sliders on our first-storey deck.

Last week I heard a thump and found a kingfisher sitting on the deck. It was upright so thought it might be OK. It sat totally motionless for about 30 mins then started looking around before flying away.

Late yesterday afternoon there was an almighty thump and we found a kererū sitting on the deck. It was moving slowly so we left it for a couple of hours. It was apparent that it wasn’t going to fly off the deck but didn’t look like it had a broken wing or anything. It might have been confused by the glass ballustrading - so I put a towel over it and carried it down to the lawn below.

This morning it was still there and had not moved far and wasn’t moving. I thought it was a goner and wasn’t sure what to do. Was going to ring SPCA for advice - went for a final check just now - and it was gone. Beautiful, big bird - they're my favourites after tui.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

After arriving in NZ in 1974, applying for citizenship in late 2021 and expecting at least a year of waiting, I have been granted citizenship today.
