Geektastic:
Incindre: Game of Thrones Season 3: The Rains of Castamere... AKA The Red Wedding. Thought I was ready for this (having read all the books long before giving the TV series a chance) but it was still bloody traumatic. I'm glad I don't remember my dreams because I've a feeling they're going to be pretty grim tonight.

Seriously? It wasn't that bad - and the book is worse I thought.

It will be fun when the undead Catelyn Stark turns up later on, though.

I wonder if they're going to do that. I'm thinking not.

Ascension  Via Netflix.  Considering it was a SyFy  mini series it's  not too bad.  7 / 10

It was a hell of a shock to me when I read that in the books!

They've streamlined quite a lot of G.R.R.M's ramblings out of the books because the glut of plot-lines are too difficult to follow. Case-in-point: the random Targaryen cousin who gets introduced for no real reason in the books is absent from the TV Series, but elements are reworked into Tyrion and Mormont's story.
The TV series is its own beast now that it's caught up and overtaken the books in some places, so it's unlikely that the producers are going to saturate the storyline with any more extraneous characters, instead focusing on the ones they've invested strongly in.

Falling Skies. Walking dead but with aliens and way slower progress. In fairness I'm not a big walking dead fan either.

I don't think it will work on TV and for the reason already given about streamlining.

Halt and Catch Fire
I love this show. You never know what's going to happen next and I like all the characters who all seem to be doing their best to get through their quirky lives. It's interesting to see how the show handles real history and how the show events fit into it.

The 100

I actually quite enjoyed it, despite the typical "lord of the flies" approach and predictable characters etc.

I was off work sick for a week and got through the whole first season (along with several movies) on Netflix.

I also attempted watching The 4400...gave up after episode 5...found it to be a bit slow and the acting was not great.

Watched the pilot for the new Supergirl show, it had gotten good reviews from it's ComicCon preview.

I thought it was horrendously bad.

It was made very clear within the first minute that it was not set in the same universe as Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice etc. This seems like a strange decision if DC are trying to compete with Marvel who are tying everything together.

The above aside; the story was convoluted and rushed, the acting amateur, special effects pretty bad, and the costume plain and uninteresting.

The 4400 got a lot better in season 2 (the first season only had 5 episodes). IIRC season 2 and 3 were both very good, but went downhill in season 4.

Good to know.

Maybe I'll get back into it...

Maybe - but at that point it needs to change the name as it is no longer what it claims to be.

The last series was pretty poor IMV compared to the others. I may not bother with the rest if they depart too far from the books.

It has never claimed to be an exact adaptation, and "A Game of Thrones" was only the name of the first book anyway.

How will you know if it is departing from the books when they haven't been written/published yet?
