lchiu7: I have tried my first ship. Post charges by volumetric weight so possibly a package that is relatively light but in a large box might attract more postage than if it were packed more compactly? Anybody had experience with that scenario?

Yes I got stung with this one - After my first youshop experience being very quick and cheap I thought I'd try to send a 2nd hand Bass guitar using the service. Big mistake!
I received an email from the youshop warehouse that it was going to cost a staggering NZ$298!!! for a 12kg item...I was gutted. Thankfully I had the 15% discount code which saved me NZ$50 but considering that a year prior I had a Bass guitar shipped direct using USPS Priority Intl. for NZ$100 cheaper I would've expected it to get to me quicker but it took about the same amount of time.

So yeah, it's great for small items, not so much for the bulkier stuff.

Did you have to pay GST on that? $298 doesn't leave a lot for the value of the item to get under the threshold?

pretty happy with youshop service, but better tracking needed
just received my first shipment today

order placed with Amazon
youshop received the package last Monday Nov 26th, and my new chromebook arrived today
So 1 week from Youshop warehouse to mt home in Auckland

Even through the package arrived at my doorstep this morning, nz post tracking still shows the package is on the way to NZ... Better tracking is needed

Interesting. My parcel arrived in their warehouse on the 22, and it left on the 28. Still says 'On the Way to NZ'. As I live in a main center, I hope it'll arrive soon.

However, it will incur customs tax so I hope it's not held up there for too long.

BTW, anyone who has got a tracking number - does it have the format 'NZxxxxxxxxxUS' or is it something different? Because when you click on a YouShop parcel when you haven't yet been given a NZ tracking number, the URL is in the form: https://www.nzpost.co.nz/user/xxxxx/bsa/parcel/NZxxxxxxxxxUS

When/how will you have to pay customs then? (is this after you pay for it on YouShop?)

Reading this thread, I can maybe see why my parcel still hasn't left the Warehouse .. 3 days and counting since they asked me to pay (and 3 days since I paid)

Have another parcel that just arrived there as well, so shall see how long it takes for them to bill and then send.

Regarding volume weight .. its a killer! The parcel I am waiting to be sent was 2.2kg, volume weight is 7kg

No GST - with the 15% discount the shipping was NZ$248 plus the price of the Bass guitar at US$150 it comes in at around NZ$450 - thankfully I wasn't charged GST which was fortunate as that would've delayed the process further...

That's the killer for me.  Jut forget about using the service for heavy or bulky items. The postage is going to make the transaction not worthwhile.

I just ordered a SSD. Assuming sensible packaging this cost me no more than the 500gm minimum.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

How else are you going to get stuff in? You will find all shippers work on volumetric weight. It then just comes down to who has the best rates.

I have to say that it seems slow and hardly any cheaper (if it is) than the likes of Comgateway. I am reserving judgement on the whole process until I have the items in hand.

Went to order some silver bullion bars, didn't read the prohibited items. Looks like YouShop don't forward precious metals to NZ .. what can I say Cry

Hi Guys,

I have an issue. I bought an item from Amazon and they tried to deliver it to Youshop Oregon address but as it was 5:30pm Youshop were closed and from what i can see from fedex tracking, they have left the item at the local post office and are waiting for either pickup/rearrange the delivery.

What should i do? Can i call Youshop and ask them to call the post office to arrange for redelivery? Any help?

As per: http://www.nzpost.co.nz/products-services/online-shopping/youshop/things-you-should-know/at-our-usa-warehouse

"If you receive notification that your parcel could not be delivered to the warehouse due to no-one being present to sign for the delivery, your parcel will be picked up by the warehouse staff in next working day (USA time) and you will be notified by New Zealand Post within 48 hours of this taking place."

I managed to have a webchat with nz post chat rep who said that Youshop staff with either go to the local post office and pick up the item or call them to arrange for a redelivery.  They told me that if nothing comes up in my youshop account, call them again on Friday after 3:30pm and they will try and find out what happened to the parcel.

Me too. Its my first shipment so keen for it to be successful as this could be very useful! UPS has my shipping weight as 5.10lb so I'm hoping that will be the same weight they use for the youshop charge (should be about $35 I think).
