Why not?

They've streamlined quite a lot of G.R.R.M's ramblings out of the books because the glut of plot-lines are too difficult to follow. Case-in-point: the random Targaryen cousin who gets introduced for no real reason in the books is absent from the TV Series, but elements are reworked into Tyrion and Mormont's story.
The TV series is its own beast now that it's caught up and overtaken the books in some places, so it's unlikely that the producers are going to saturate the storyline with any more extraneous characters, instead focusing on the ones they've invested strongly in.

Maybe - but at that point it needs to change the name as it is no longer what it claims to be.

The last series was pretty poor IMV compared to the others. I may not bother with the rest if they depart too far from the books.

It has never claimed to be an exact adaptation, and "A Game of Thrones" was only the name of the first book anyway.

How will you know if it is departing from the books when they haven't been written/published yet?

Mainly because the makers said it will..! And it already has, by leaving out a great deal.

If they depart, it becomes something "set in the milieu of Game of Thrones" not "Game of Thrones"...

A bit like HP Lovecraft creating the Cthulu Mythos and then many other authors writing stories using it.

Banshee is kind of strange - the guy getting there, a couple of people know the back story, etc...

Catastratophe is a light comedy with an American getting involved with a brit. Watched the whole season 1 on Amazon Prime, not sure there is more to come later.

Banshee's great watching, I reckon - we finished season three earlier in the year. The lead's Kiwi Anthony Star (Jethro/Van from Outrageous Fortune). It's complete pulp noir-sh entertainment, so don't expect Big Ideas to be discussed! The worst thing is the level of violence has really been ratcheted up over the seasons, to the point they took it too far last season. Every episode seems to have a minimum of one turn-away moment - the grossest being watching someone having their windpipe ripped out.

Catastrophe is a real charmer - there's a real lightness to the writing but with a good level of British black humour (certainly not an American show); season two has been commissioned, which is great news.

Just finished Better Call Saul. Not bad, didn't live up to the hype for me though.

Currently watching Broadchurch and really enjoying it. The Brits sure know how to do a good show.

Justified, a very under-rated series. If you haven't seen this, have a look. Kicks off with a bang, maintains momentum throughout all seasons, ends perfectly.

If you like Broadchurch try Happy Valley and The Fall, both from the BBC and both brilliant.

The Fall especially is one of the best series I've ever seen.

Really enjoyed Broadchurch. Hanging out for season 2 to come on Netflix. Almost finished House, it is consistently good. Hugh Laurie is great and the story is good too. Apparently White Collar is good too. Not started that one yet though.

Watched the first show of Bloodline on Sunday night, looks like it may be worth another watch to see how it pans out.

Agree with above on Broadchurch, Happy Valley and the Fall, great shows.

The Fall especially is one of the best series I've ever seen.

Happy Valley was great, I'd thought it was better than the Fall.

Watched the first season of Fall, really enjoyed it. However, the cat and mouse set up for second season didn't really grab me and reviews I read didn't rate the the second season as highly as first, so I didn't bother with continuing. Happy to take any other views, though.

Strike Back Series 5 is available now. Is the last one ever unfortunately as I totally love that series. Bromance with cool combat engagement scenes. Not entirely realistic, but still with much more grit than the likes of NCIS etc try to offer.

Bitter sweet, about to start watching it tonight, but know it's the last ever at the same time.
