I think that Brian Tamaki caused the earthquake himself, and is just trying to deflect blame.

I think that Brian Tamaki caused the earthquake himself, and is just trying to deflect blame.

He only thinks he's that powerful.

That's the problem. I almost get the sense they are wanting aftershocks, to get some news happening. Everytime a building is found to have an issue, it becomes a breaking headline, when in reality most are pretty minor and precautionary. The ideal thing that will happen is that we get a few more minor aftershocks and it will all die down, and Wellington will be safe from EQs for at least the next 100 years.

The world is full of news, if they could be bothered to actually report it.

That's the same car park that has just reopened after a couple of years of work to make it safe, after it was closed because of the previous earthquakes.

Now see here - that was quality work that was, no Number 8 wire mentality there I tell ya! She'll be right - you'll see.

Considering the relative frequency of earthquakes, you'd think that they would keep a supply of metal plates at the building.

I feel the same way. I'm not able fully bodied either. Husband has the car during the day, we live in a tsunami inundation zone near the coast. If he is out of town my best bet is probably my bicycle (just got well enough to ride it in the last month) and biking an evacuation route on the flat to out of the zone, leaving everything behind (including pets) but my purse and a small back pack. I've got no nearby relatives or mates.

On top of that Hubby is very reluctant to talk about it! I plan on corralling him today to go over official evacuation routes to choose one and I've emailed him the map and tsunami brochure for our area.

If we are in town and have the car I want our plan worked out in advance.

I even have a hell of a time getting him to take the earthquakes we have had seriously. I scour local news radio stations for advice when one happens and he carries on sleeping. The last biggish one we had I almost had us going to higher ground. He is like that with a lot of stuff- a kind of if you ignore it it will go away mentality. I've seen it before when, for example, the car was making a funny noise or the mower wasn't functioning correctly. He'll leave it in denial until it becomes critical!

I'm thinking it is past due time to make a plastic box bug out tsunami kit for if the car is here and making up a pack for the biking possibility if I am on my own. I think today is the day to put it together.

Mike, can you make an arrangement with someone you know or a neighbour to pick you up or if not someone you know, what about having a couple close proximity volunteers? I'd start by contacting agencies by phone today near you like disability associations, Lions, fire dept etc. to find individuals interested in supporting you specifically.

I'm less worried about earthquakes than tsunamis.

Your in a Welly apartment, 8th floor? Can you contact the apartment maintenance team or whoever looks after it, for a contact if there is a need?

Also, while there is no guarantee, the EQ sequence is winding down slowly, the worst is over hopefully

Perhaps you can ask the apartment manager for a rundown of the checks that have been carried out, for peace of mind

SWMBO has ben told the BNZ Harbour Quays building will be out for months now.

A friend of mine in Masterton told me yesterday that government property folks are looking at all the empty space in Masterton that would suit - so some Wellington folks may end up doing a reverse commute!
