House on fire? Your car has just been stolen? Father kidnapped by terrorists? Missile launched at US by DPRK? Comet about to strike earth? Alien invasion?

Donald Trump actually says something coherent. NZ's next top model. Andrew Little ahead in polls. tongue-out

I can believe the first two - but you're just being silly with the last one!!cool

Ooh, ooh! People walking around with their phones on speakerphone mode holding the phone up in front of their chin.

You are not a Kardashian. You are not on reality TV. We do not want to hear your conversation. Turn off speakerphone and talk on it like a normal person !!

Or worse ... playing hideous music via a BT speaker as they walk along the street.

Perhaps I'll start doing the same with Ted Talks.

I only answer pre arranged phone calls. No need for me to be contactable ever in an "emergency" that some people seem to manage to invent in their heads.

So if friends want to ring to ask you over to their place for dinner, you don't want to know about it?

I have friends that know that sort of thing should just be an electronic communication rather than a phone call interrupting whatever I happen to be doing at the time. It's hardly a case of life or death requiring my immediate attention.

They would generally ask over Facebook or wechat.

They are usually doing push to talk or voice messages in a chat app not a phone call since international VoIP back to China is so bad that real-time calls don't work properly.

The realization that two similar but opposite questions asked on Geek Zone will return a 7 times response and negative contribution to the negative question.

"What's something small that annoys you?" = 22 pages of moaning responses across the opening five day period.

"What's something small that makes you smile?" = only 3 pages of something positive to say across the opening five day period.

It doesn't annoy me per se, but it certainly make me think. Can this be turned around or are many contributors to the Open Forum just of a negative mindset?

That's an interesting point. I think I'm happy much more than I'm annoyed, so the happiness doesn't really "stand out" too much and therefore doesn't feel worth writing down. That's not the best explanation but you're stuck with it 😛

And for the regularly scheduled topic... writing something of this length or more on a phone keyboard!

This is a well-known phenomenon in the media world. Good news does not sell newspapers. People are quicker to complain about something than to praise something. Maybe this is because irritation is a stronger emotion than satisfaction. Maybe it is because if you are happy, you don't feel like interrupting yourself, getting up, going over to the keyboard, and taking the trouble to write about it. Why should you? It is much more enjoyable to sit back and bask in the happy glow.

I get that. I see points raised that can be commented on. Often its the negative. Or in todays speak "challenging" Some look for a fault. Others are supremely helpful. They know who they are. But we are all different, not sheep, otherwise comments will be copy and paste.

When you pay Chorus $4,000 to put phone lines in for your subdivision, they come and do it and the result is that your broadband speed falls at exactly the same time they connect the new lines....

The continuing decline of good old common courtesy as shown above ...... "Don't be so rude as to disturb me as I am too busy getting on with my life rather than be disturbed by my friends?". Wow!

Actually, I do not see that type of attitude as a small thing that annoys me. I see it as a continuing and major decline in standards that quite frankly sicken me. I see it in my son when he is playing a video game, but there again he is only 12 years of age and knows no better.

Although I am 60 years of age, I am determined that such an attitude does not prevail through him and will continue to bring him up to respect those around him in a courteous manner.
