Surely there's a clearer way to write this headline, also noting "FBI - wanted...." is used in the article.

Rikkitic: Police seize NZ assets of former spy wanted by FBI

Incorrect. FBI is exciting and sensational in NZ. Put that first not last!

May I suggest:

"FBI recovers pyramid scheme profits left in New Zealand by escaped former spy from Luxembourg."

Too long?   ☺️

On the plus side for the reader, it would avoid the need to click on the article.

What on earth is a wet temperature?

"New Zealanders are being told to brace for wet temperatures in the coming days, which will be the result of a tropical cyclone expected to hit Australia on Thursday."

Some places that are central to a more rural area I call "village" (Pāuatahanui). Some have a bigger population but still away from the main city, but because of the larger population I go with the "suburb" (Plimmerton).

"Township" I feel is very American.

On Stuff: "The Sumatran cub sustained a serious head injury but zoo staff could not save it."

Surely the only word that could fit there is "and", as "but" as a preposition should state the opposite e.g. ""The Sumatran cub sustained a serious head injury but zoo staff saved it."

A couple of days ago I read about an expedition that found traces of something they belive to be Amelia Earhart's plane. There is no confirmation according to the original article I read.

Today on Stuff frontpage:

"Has Amelia Earhart’s disappearance finally been solved?"

  1. Clickbait headline as it doesn't say anything really just tries to pick curiosity by inferring the reader's knowledge gap
  2. Betteridge's Law of Headlines apply, so an obvious answer for a loaded question headline is "No"

Ok, I clicked it to see if it differed from the original article.

Like many times before, the homepage text says one thing, but the page headline says something different. This one goes with "Amelia Earhart’s plane ‘found’ in depths of Pacific after $18m search"

Ah. So now the actual context. Found between quotes, because no one actually confirmed it. They found an outline of a plane but without visual confirmation - and money they don't have - there is no way to say without doubt it's Earhart's plane.

But yeah, let the clickbait roll.

Nothing wrong with the headline - Super Rugby Pacific: Brad Shields named new Hurricanes Captain, but the body of the article... Three duplicated paragraphs and some random stuff about the Black Ferns, which also has a duplicated paragraph.

Do they not even read anything through before they hit publish?
