sbiddle: I tried to buy a few special products yesterday and despite clicking on store pickup was finding freight charges being added.

I got my HDMI cables today at least from a store pickup, the guy there said they'd sold heaps at 50c!

$4.95 to not go to the mall is well worth it IMO.

Except their stores have some great deals, that the online stores don't have . For example I picked up some cable tidies for $2 (normally $30), and a 8 sheet cross cut paper shredder yesterday for $9.95, which are very expensive if you buy from Stationary stores. So they are drip feeding deals instore.

A5X: Is it me or is Dick Smith in store on the decline?

Seem that their product in store range in becoming smaller, or less or a selection. I get the feeling the focus is moving towards online sales, and moving away from brick and mortar shops.

Good example would be, their sale the starts tomorrow appears to be an online sale. I don't know if that is the case fully, but the way it is promoted, appears to look that way.

If in store is on the decline, starting to wonder how much longer before the stores are reduced or shutdown. There was some speculation about this about a year ago I think it was through the news.

It took them a year to get USB3 thumb drives.....and by then I didn't need any more.

Late and not enough.

Their USB3 ones are not exactly performers either. Slower than a decent one on a USB2 port is.

But people never worry about that when getting a USB drive anyway, as evidenced by people with those horrid warehouse ones that are sub 1MB/sec write speed.

Seeing some *really* unusual stuff in their bargain bins now.    Saw something that was a kids tablet type game? selling for $5.00.    Looked at all sides of the box and could not figure out what it was!

I almost bought one of those last week. They were also selling A3 and A4 laminators for $5 and $10 respectively.

Best thing I bought was a budget (Konic) tablet for $19. Poor screen but functions well. Would never pay the $100+ RRP for something like that, but for $20 it's great value.

Seems the Australian Dick Smiths are also filling the online orders by using courier bags from multiple shops..

I got 3 "Please find attaced your invoice" e-mails from "DSE" today from an order with 5 items, so assuming 3 shipments.  Had a look at the e-mail headers and my SPF checker threw up the warning "Softfail (domain owner discourages use of this host)", using a NZ dse mail server, with their dicksmith.com.au domain.  Kind of all fits with what is happening, and to be honest "Softfail" seems to describe DSE perfectly at the current moment. The hardfail can't be that far away?

Managed to get a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 model tablet from DSE Takapuna today, it was their display model but snagged it for $100.

Pretty happy with it given the price!

I got 2 emails on the last order, and everything from st lukes came in its own bag. Even labeled 1 of 11 etc.

I was clicking around on the nz site and something linked me to the au one without me knowing. Was getting all pissy because it had lost my cart contents (i thought) but then noticed I wasnt logged in and couldnt. Then clicked when I looked at the address.

Yeah that would be me! Picked up a lot of good deals, keeping this tablet for myself although I flipped a few things I bought on TradeMe or gave them to Family / Friends.

I've been to a few stores last few weeks, happened to be passing by Takapuna DSE today though so stopped in. It was marked at RRP on display at $699 or something and not marked for clearance but scanned at the discounted price (I'd narrowly missed out on getting one in Wellington on Thursday so knew the price already).

That's lucky for you and a PITA for the rest of us.  If only they had an app so you could walk around the store and scan things of interest to check their prices...

I went out there a few times but didn't grab anything significant just a few cases and a kindle accessory pack.
