Acid rain was walked back with the clean air act mainly but rain is still more acidic than it was causing issues but we are just now starting to see signs of recovery in hard hit areas.

Lead and Mercury is simple, They are neurotoxic so we stopped putting lead in paint! Kids in the US have gone from 7.5% having concerning levels of lead in their blood in 1990's to under 1% today

AIDS has killed 35 million people world wide and only by sustained effort globally been walked back from certain death to somewhat manageable but is still a crisis in many parts of the world today.

Ebola again has only been halted from mass spread by concerted global efforts to stop it's spread during outbreaks AND we now have treatment protocols

Ozone hole was fixed with the banning of CFC's and took 20+ years to heal

Finally the impending ice age was early CC warnings, Pretty much everything you've listed was only solved by real effort and change. This attitude is kinda my point from a few pages back, Until CC is messing up a persons life directly it wont be taken seriously, We collectively are waiting for more "evidence" before taking action, hoping privately that there is still a fix on the table

I feel its more desperation. yeah I believe but I can make money, the guy next door can do stuff first. One day, our life will revolve around survival, it wont be GDP and Olympic gold medals

Residential solar purely on a Kw in to Kw out basis, yes, of course bigger users would give more of a gain. But once you start fueling things like EVs with electrons from off your own roof, the game changes.

Believe in, as believe in Santa Claus? Believe in the tooth fairy, leprechauns, God, etc. All are based on unquestioning faith in what you are told.
As an example our business now has a Chief of Sustainability. In a recent staff meeting he was telling us how to reduce our carbon footprint, both personally and as a business.
When he was challenged by one of my colleagues (someone far less shy than me) to explain how it all works, he couldn't. He fudged around the edges but that really wasn't going to wash with a room full of people with a science background. In the end he just finished by saying "Well we all just have to".
And we all just do, because that is the path of least resistance. If it's said often enough it becomes the truth. I think someone might have said that in 1930s Europe.

Believe it's real and happening, It's an even smaller subset who believe it's real and caused by humans, The evidence is clear and well verified. That CoS is what happens when you want to be seen to be doing something without doing anything/anything meaningful.

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

It was more from me, how much benefit residential solar would be if everyone had it, but the amount homes uses is bugger all, so a tiny dent in national usage. I thought it would be a big contributor and saver of hydro use and great idea.

Personally I love solar PV, even though its rarely a good investment. For an EV that "could" help viability, but you'd need to have it garaged and charging on at least a couple of sunny days, and sunny days don't always align with when you dont need the car. Winter, forget it

When I got quoted for solar, and failed as roof too intricate, the 330W panels were about 1.6m x 1m. you might get 900W per hour, 6 hours sun, maybe 5kW. And that's on the best day ever. Rain, cloud, moving shade from buildings, then forget Winter, hardly worth it. If they could be incorporated cheaply into the roof and hood, then why not.

The sun changes position and the cells are at their most efficient for a very small period of time.

Auto-makers are experimenting with up to 40% cells but considering the ideal vehicle size for battery efficiency is smaller, it also gives you less surface area to play with.

You're better off having a bigger solar array on your roof or even one that can follow the sun and just filling up each night when you get home.

The meaning of this does very much depend on exactly what question was asked. For people over 45, it is unlikely that CC will have a significant effect on them during their lifetime, even if most live into their 80s and 90s. Conversely, preventing CC is something that they're going to have to pay for. So there's a strong incentive to dispute the importance of CC. None so blind...

This is particularly true in the USA, and amongst Republicans. They have a strong belief that you alone are the author of your success, and consequently the rich are entitled to whatever goodies they can get, and there is an aversion to contributing for the common good (i.e. subtracting from your success to contribute to someone else's). Even the Republican poor have this belief, I think on the basis that, if it weren't for a bit of bad luck, any one of them could have been Bill Gates.

Actually there is. It's called a thermocouple.

Regretfully, a thermocouple only generates microvolts and microamps.

It would be awesome to be able to convert all that waste heat into electricity.
