Reacher Series 2.

I am struggling a bit with it, having read every book and seeing the departure since Andrew Child took over.

Some stuff is fairly incredible in the books anyway, seeing them on screen isn't making that better.

There is something about Alan Ritchson that irks me, I guess it's perhaps the slightly 'on the spectrum' gormless look he is clearly having to fake that is off-putting.

It's not terrible as a series, but it's not that great. 6/10

I was an avid reader of Reacher books. Still buy the latest but it's not at the same level as John Le Carre.

On the other hand, JLC is so detailed that you feel like you are in the scene described - but it takes a lot to read his books.

Yeah, I feel like a lot of authors are like that. Child is definitely at the other end of the scale, but it makes for better entertainment. Reading stuff like JLC feels like homework :) Not something I want to do as recreation :)

Reacher Series 2.

I was enjoying it well enough until the last episode; but yes, agree that it could have been better.

"Fool Me Once" on Netflix - my gosh, what a complete pile of rubbish; and the final couple of episodes I watched mostly to see how bad it would get...   The answer was "quite".  What a waste of some pretty good actors.

Yeah, same actually, the last episode ruined the series. It was painful in so many ways.

TLD:

A question:  Who plays the MI5 dog with the big ears?  Or what was the name of his character?  I have tried to find him cast lists, but failed, and I'd love to know what else he has been in, and if he had those enormous ears in the other parts he played?

@TLD

Chris Coghill

Interstingly, when you start typing his name into google the first suggested search is "Chris Coghill ears"

Just finished re-watching The West Wing. Some themes are still the same, 20 years later. Still a solid 8.5/10.

anyone else looking forward to Masters of the air on Apple+. They spent close to 300 million on the series and by all accounts it was money well spent. Cant wait.

Yep. My understanding is that it’s made by the same people as Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Bound to be very rah-rah US-centric but still looking forward to it.

I'm feeling very similar.  Season 1 was great, and Alan Ritchson was a much better fit for the role than Tom Cruise in the movies.  But season 2 has felt a bit underwhelming.  I could take Reacher's laconic style in the first season as being representative of his character (and a good fit with the books), but I always expected him to be more open with his closest friends from the Special Investigators.  Seeing how he is with O'Donnell and Dixon, in spite of everything they've been through together, shows that Reacher seems more than wilfully ignorant of basic things like human interaction.  He comes across more like a robot or alien, rather than a guy who just doesn't give a crap.  It's one thing to choose the hobo life, but it's a bit like Johnny Lawrence in Cobra Kai who somehow made it through the last 30 years without learning about things like cellphones, computers, and the internet.  It's almost less believable than the action scenes (which simply require willing suspension of disbelief).

I actually liked Cruise in the movies, they did a decent job of relaying his power if not his absolute size. Reacher seems almost on the spectrum via Ritchson, it's a step too far IMO. As you say it's almost wilful ignorance rather than the actual attitude of Reacher from the books.

Echo 3 on Apple TV+

It's basically a story of an American scientist who goes to Colombia to study in the rainforest and gets kidnapped. Her husband and brother are special forces, so go to sort out her return.

There's a sub plot going on, which confuses things slightly.

Luke Evans plays the brother.

I'm halfway through episode 2. Ep 1 was VERY slow. Ep 2, less so.

INteresting, well acted, well shot/produced. Quite predictable though.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
