Reacher Series 2.

I am struggling a bit with it, having read every book and seeing the departure since Andrew Child took over.

Some stuff is fairly incredible in the books anyway, seeing them on screen isn't making that better.

There is something about Alan Ritchson that irks me, I guess it's perhaps the slightly 'on the spectrum' gormless look he is clearly having to fake that is off-putting.

It's not terrible as a series, but it's not that great. 6/10

Ditto - well put - but I feel somewhat conflicted about a 6/10 without noting big positives.

It is definitely 6/10 for adaptation of the characters and the feel of the book. The series feels too mood-suppressed across all the actors.

But I really appreciated that the production did a good job of serialising the storyline so every episode gave me something good even though I'm familiar with all the novels and short stories.

Then when I compare it to specific other series, e.g. Jack Ryan, it is more credible than all of them. Head to head it compares well for sensible actions.

"Boy Swallows Universe" on Netflix. If I can summarise it in 4 words ......

Oh my giddy aunt

Really well done and set in Brisbane in the early 80's.

I am starting Yellowstone. It's fairly brutal, I quite like it, but the whole train thing is shocking. It really was the wild west.

Seeing as Masters of the Air has finally appeared, running through Band of Brothers and The Pacific again. BoB outstanding. The Pacific, nearly as good, but bit too much round the edges stuff, an entire episode devoted to leave in Melbourne, etc.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (TV series) 5/10

Two strangers land jobs with a spy agency that offers them a life of espionage, wealth, and travel. The catch: new identities in an arranged marriage.

Boring, slow, brings shame to most all other spy genre. Very much lacks pace with very hollow plots which you can see coming.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Watched EP2 last night. I'll watch one more and pull the pin I think. I am sure there must be better on TV than that.

I wish there were comedies like two and a half men, modern family, home improvement, friends and the like being made. Everything has a real 'indie' budget feel to it these days.

It's like the big studios aren't making anything.

Yeah, it’s certainly not as good as I hoped, especially given Donald Glover (exec producer/writer/actor for it)’s background in creating something far more impressive and unique in Atlanta (available on Disney +).

I even watched Mr and Mrs Smith, the movie... What a difference in pace, acting, story line.

Nope. Removed from my list.

Disclosure here - I haven't seen the TV show Mr & Mrs Smith.  I have seen (and enjoyed many times) the movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I was aware that a TV show was being made, but didn't expect much.  Then I saw it advertised on Prime so decided to look at the trailer.  That just confirmed for me that it's a waste of time.

The original movie had a nice idea at the core of the movie - what if two assassins happened to accidentally meet and fall in love and get married, and then later found out.  The movie was sold because it was fun (the secret assassins part), there was chemistry between the two main actors, and it wasn't really about "spies", it was about love and stale marriages, lies and deceit, etc.

The new show seems to think that it's about spies who are forced to be married.  The new show sounds boring and dull.  Pass.

I'm planning on watching that shortly and as a prelude to watching it I've just watched 1883 and 1923.. enjoyed both of them.

That aside..

Current(ish) recently watched shows:

  • Reacher (not bad, but I haven't read the books)
  • Silo (Thoroughly enjoyed and I have read the books)
  • For All Mankind (love it!)

Current(ish) shows I'm currently watching:

  • Trigger Point (The Bill meets Hurtlocker)
  • That 90's Show (Pretty meh so far to be honest)
  • Your Honor
  • Chicago P.D.
  •

Older stuff I'm working my way through:

  • Secret Diary of a Call Girl
  • It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
  • Survivors (1970's version)
  • Attack on Titan

Thankyou i am glad im not the only person who found it a slog to watch . For a spy action show nothing happened  and the only thing in the first episode that was slightly exciting was the explosion. i cant be bothered to watch the 2nd episode .

I watched the complete series of “Mr & Mrs Smith” just because I wanted to see a pay-off. It never came so 4/10.

It was 80% boredom, 10% intrigue, and only 10% action. My favourite scenes were largely in the latter part of the series - apart from the cake scene - but the inconsistencies kept snowballing: Mr Smith could sprint and move faster than Mrs Smith but as soon as he had to catch her he had real difficulty; their fights were similarly unbelievable; gun fights were crazy because they always outshot rifles with their pistols even if they were ambushed - and what ambusher shows themselves before the ambush; the two main actors couldn’t run and point a gun in the right direction - but I guess it’s not considered to be a necessary ability because actors got away with that on the last James Bond movie; etc.

I'm watching Nemesis on the ABC which is a three part documentary on the Australian Coalition government under Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison.

The first two episodes are up with the final one due on Monday. The machinations and contempt these guys have for each other is fantastic.

Morrison is held in near universal contempt, it's just wonderful.

anyone else looking forward to Masters of the air on Apple+. They spent close to 300 million on the series and by all accounts it was money well spent. Cant wait.

Yep. My understanding is that it’s made by the same people as Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Bound to be very rah-rah US-centric but still looking forward to it.

Have watched the available episodes but feeling a bit disappointed and underwhelmed. Although it captures the danger and terror of what they were doing, each of the first three episodes covers pretty much the same stuff - but there was the start of a bit of change towards the end of E3. And because the crews are generally wearing masks and goggles when they're flying, it makes it difficult to distinguish who is who and it can get a bit confusing.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
