gehenna: Shōgun is fantastic

Absolutely Bloody Fantastic. 9/10 maybe heading for a 10/10

Great authentic looking costumes, makeup, hair styles, scenes and prop's and of course the cgi.

Cosmo Jarvis voice has that Richard Burton, Shakespearean, sexiness to it - fabulous. In fact close your eyes and you would think it was Richard Burton. Though the bulk of the actors are Japanese you can tell they are seasoned actors all with great performances. All the actors including the children are very very good.

The script is fantastic and is so well written that everyone can follow the political and religious (catholic/protestant) intrigues with ease. Though a large part is Subtitled, it does not distract from the show at all.

This is an overall winner for Disney +.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Kookoo:

"Halo" S2E3 on TVNZ+. I like it. I like it a lot. Sure, it's predictable and silly, but there's still a lot to like there, especially for a show based on a shooter.

Yeah, but while S2 is more coherent , its unbelievable slow,  and I fear that all of the back story and exposition will be of nought unless they actually get on and DO SOMETHING:...

I mean we all know that this season is heading to a Halo, but to what end, and I fear unless they can wrangle the Covenant arc down in size, simply adding the Flood will make it even more confusing....

gehenna: Shōgun is fantastic

I'm enjoying it but the style is a bit fatiguing. It's shot very dark/washed out and has an excessively dramatic score.

The 1980 series was excellent as well although it's quite dated now.

The Gentlemen (Netflix)  Guy Ritchies first major leap into TV series.  We are 5 episodes in and really enjoying it so far, it is a bit Peaky Blinders, Ozark.  Well worth a look

9/10

Not sure if you noticed any lens distortion around the edges of the image. To my eye it seems like they are going for an aesthetic where you're viewing the world through an old looking glass telescope, like the screen is looking into history, perhaps. I love the style.

In comparison to other contemporary shows that use darkness to get around unfinished CGI and other production issues, I feel the darkness is more effective in the show and balances it with light scenes well.

It's not perfect, you can see the smooth edges of people in front of digital backgrounds, but overall it's excellent quality.

Still really enjoying Masters of the Air. Apple TV+

It's very rah, rah, America! But you'd expect that from an American production.
It's a very well put together series. Looks like a ton of money was sunk into it.

EDIT: A couple of minor gripes: There was an episode where they went to Africa. It was over almost as soon as it began. No real explanation of what, why or their time in Africa while they awaited orders etc.

Almost no footage or concentration on D-Day - lots of build up, then its two months after D-Day.

I'm enjoying it as I am a fan of ww2 aviation.

But still feels very disjointed compared to the others in the series but that just reflects the absence of a constant character arc due to horrendous death toll.

I agree about the sudden north africa episode and feel similar about the red tails Tuskegee airman appearance. The actor playing the leader of the squadron is too good looking. I prefer the look of the Band of brothers cast.

But I'll still keep watching it along with Shogun

Just finished season 2 of Foundation, and thoroughly enjoyed it.  My wife is not a SiFi fan, so I had to wait for her to be away for a couple of weeks.

The production values were as good as any movie, and the storylines were mostly very good.  It also has excellent audio with sound coming from all around me.

Just finished Masters of the Air - thoroughly enjoyed it (mostly)

Also finished Santa Clarita Diet - I will miss that. It was unhinged fun.

Speaking of unhinged: I am watching (up to ep 2) The Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin on Apple TV+
It's completely bonkers (as you'd expect from Noel Fielding) and often makes no sense at all. I love it.

I thought they only flew over Africa, unless they needed a refuel somewhere.

No, there was quite a bit of build up about the fact that they'd raid Germany then head to Africa where they'd be met by another group.

There were shots of them in the desert waiting for people to pick them up, a couple of brief conversations and then they're back in England.
Lots of build up. No payoff.

3 Body Problem on Netflix

I'm up to episode 8

It's though-provoking, interesting, somewhat far-fetched and also quite visually stunning at times.

I am wholly invested.

The point was, they were flying so far into Germany on that mission, they didn’t have enough fuel to get back to England - so they went south to N Africa - as planned.

Agree that what happened then is not well explained. The planes were all pretty shot-up so did they leave them in Africa or what? If you watch the accompanying doco, The Bloody Hundredth, it’s also mentioned there but not well-explained.

There are a few YT channels that try to correct factual errors and fill in the blanks in Masters of the Air.
