Geektastic: A new low of banality for the Herald today:

"Why do some farts smell worse than others?"

Dealing with the big issues of our time as ever....

Do these people even know what news it's? Or that there is a world outside NZ?

Regrettably thats what the public want, or the media feel that is needed to attract views

It is very easy to resolve.

www.nzheraldshow.co.nz

Link broken

Not a real link, what the website link should be, a show not news

Oh, I see. Right then.

I'm just amazed that they still claim to be a newspaper. Shurely shome mishtake?

Kiwi woman aghast at pic on nude site

Not so much the headline (though it is click baitish) but the dumb content. Don't these ignoramuses have any clue that if you put a photo up on the internet  anyone can copy and save it? Sheesh!

There's nothing new about farts in the media:

Good Lord.  Clicking through from that link led me to Le Pétomane

Some of the highlights of his stage act involved sound effects of cannon fire and thunderstorms, as well as playing "'O Sole Mio" and "La Marseillaise" on an ocarina through a rubber tube in his anus. He could also blow out a candle from several yards away. His audience included Edward, Prince of Wales; King Leopold II of the Belgians; and Sigmund Freud.

A silent (and odorless) film record of a performance:

Clearly not.

I do not participate in Facebook, but I really cannot see why anyone would post nude photographs of themselves on there...!

Sloppy journalism or just straight out embellishment?

Given the importance of the mistake to the story, and the language used, I'm pretty sure it was embellishment.

I'm going to guess said journalist was rewrting an existing piece for impact. From there the bad grammar of the existing piece became a shocking new story. Kind of ironic if the rewriter was fooled.

No it hasn't.  There was a magnitude 6.6 - though it was at 614km deep (so unlikely to be damaging) and it was much closer to Jakarta than it was to Borneo.

If NZ Herald is to use early alert systems for EQs to generate headlines, then they should damned well recheck on a site like USGS - to verify that they're not reporting automatically generated "phantom" quakes.

I'm really not happy with this Headline - or the story - published by Stuff.

Parata had refuted questions about whether health issues were behind her decision to not seek reelection.  She did that yesterday.  We know the PM has some memory issues - but surely not that bad.

Key appears to have information - which I'd have thought was well inside the "private and confidential" category - suggesting the contrary, and it's very poor behaviour indeed by a PM, if he's done what he appears to have done, publicly "outing" Parata with information that he was privy to. That behaviour - and not the facts behind Parata's decision - is the "story" here.

If that's what's happened, then lack of some editorial comment by Stuff about what John Key did - and instead speculation turning it into some kind of "human interest" story - is extremely poor reflection not just on the ethics of our PM, but "Stuff" - who have betrayed Parata - and the NZ public IMO.

Awful, awful journalism.

They've also left the comment section open - allowing some of our kind fellow citizens the opportunity to rip in to Parata's performance as Minister.  Very nice - not.
