Dial111: I moved to chch from Auckland and the people I work with seem to have a strong hate for Auckland with no valid or real reason why, All I get is "aaah it's full of yuppies who drive big fancy 4WD's and drink fancy coffee with their designer dogs and look down on the rest of the country" ok you described a populous of people from a few suburbs, the rest of Auckland is just like you.

Is it small town syndrome?

Not really but the ongoing coverage about auckland this, auckland that, gets rather tedious after a while for those who dont live there.

Yes housing is crap, but not we dont want change anything that changes things, oh have we mentioned how crap housing is.

Similar to roading. Yes our roads are crap not we dont want to pay to fix roads/petrol tax, oh have we mentioned how crap roads are

We all realise that auckland is the biggest city with the most population but a significant number of people _dont_ live in auckland and it would be interesting to hear from other parts of the country.

When you mention this you get this in a sensible way you get showered in accusations of tall poppy syndrome...

I have been to Christchurch a bit over the last couple of years (never really been there before that) and it is noticeable how much of a chip on the shoulder some people there have about Auckland. It is only Auckland (not other cities).

I find it quite a Cliquey place, and (some) people seem overly concerned about what schools you attended and where you live.

Also, minor annoyance, the bl**dy cathedral. Just fix it or pull it down already. Stop asking the rest of the country to pay for it too. (I know, I know, they have finally decided to fix it, but lets see who pays for it).

I can post about an un-annoyance today!

As of iOS 11, when I get an email telling me about a new GZ post, the link now actually goes to the new post. Previously it'd show the cached page and wouldn't actually reload it.

Edit: And now it's back to an annoyance; apparently it's intermittent.

When you go shopping and get a reciept with a dirty great purple turd skid mark down it because its the end of the roll, and when you ask for a reprint on clean paper they give you a blank look.

[Blank look]

Why would you care?

They lose the text on it really quickly, and it makes OCRing the scan impossible.

Same thing for bunnings and their silly policy of stamping reciepts with a giant red stamp. That actually blanks out the black thermal text almost immediatly - have to scan it within a few days or miss letters etc.

This an entire world of which I was completely unaware. So, pressing on in case I'm missing something significant, why would you OCR a shop receipt?

Them's fightin' words!

I've actually been using Safari as my primary browser since the public beta way back in 2003, so I'm probably a bit blind to its faults...

I use Google Drive to photograph any receipts I want to keep (eg for expensive items that I think I might need proof of purchase for warranty). They all get uploaded to my Drive space where I can access them whenever I need to. I've shown them to stores a couple of times in the past and they've been happy to accept the photos as proof of purcahse.

However I don't OCR them, a simple photo is enough as storage is cheap (or free in my case).

Not OCR, but just to have a digital image of the receipt. You can upload this to your financial systems, including Xero and the IRD accepts a scan or photo as a valid receipt.

You do realise that's not the fault of EVERYONE living in Auckland, right? Media, politicians and those desiring their 15 minutes of fame or a spot in the history books only make up a very small chunk of Auckland's population.

True, but the same comment could be made about OP(trig42s) chip on shoulder comment is not _everyone_ in christchurch complaining about Auckland.

(I don't live in either city)

I have people rotating to my workplace from other parts of NZ and it's funny to see how long it takes before they stop saying "But we do it this way" refering to the other city, before they make the connection that they are no longer part of "we" anymore and start saying "But in Wellington they do it this way"

Oh, I absolutely agree. And as such, I would never suggest such a thing. :-)

Exactly. When did I buy that damn cheap-as drill that's crapped out, search in that folder and find reciept, go back with it.

Getting an update notification for iTunes, telling me that the program has been updated to 'focus on TV shows, movies and books'.

Then finding out that you STILL can't access any TV shows at all in NZ...!
